Job Summary The Lead Dispatcher operates under the direction of the Manager, Customer Service & Dispatch, and is responsible for executing daily dispatch operations within established service and profitability parameters. This role ensures efficient and timely dispatch of drivers, optimal routing, and coordination with customers and team members to maintain high service levels. The Lead Dispatcher provides guidance and support to the dispatch and customer service team, handling escalations and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency. Job Responsibilities Daily dispatch operations and planning (loading) and scheduling that are efficient and profitable. Manage and participate in daily dispatching activities, including scheduling and routing drivers for pickups and deliveries. Monitor and manage real‑time dispatch activities to address issues promptly. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations and safety standards. Team leadership: provide guidance, support, training, performance reviews and develop training programs. Escalate customer‑impacting issues, staffing constraints and profitability risks to the Manager, Customer Service & Dispatch. Routing and scheduling: optimize routes, reduce transit times and improve on‑time performance; coordinate with drivers to manage schedules. Customer coordination: serve as point of contact for escalated customer issues and complex inquiries; communicate and resolve problems to ensure high satisfaction. Data management and reporting: monitor dispatch metrics and KPIs, prepare regular reports, identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Continuous improvement: identify opportunities for process improvements, stay updated on industry trends and lead initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency. Compliance and safety: ensure all dispatch activities comply with DOT regulations and company policies, promote a culture of safety, resolve issues promptly. Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, commerce or business administration. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in dispatch operations, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry. Previous supervisory or leadership experience is a plus. Qualifications / Skills Strong leadership and team/people management abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in dispatch software and routing technologies; experience with asset‑based LTL freight. Analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to multitask and work in a fast‑paced environment. Knowledge of NSC regulations and industry best practices. Strong geographical knowledge of Calgary and Edmonton. Current forklift operator’s license, TDG certification and a valid driver’s license (Class 5 minimum, Class 1 preferred).
