Job Call (January 2026) Technical Manager Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC) seeks a production and technical pro for our Technical Manager position. Reporting to the Director, the Technical Manager will be responsible for managing and leading DARC’s technical department and technical staff, including our equipment rental services, post-production facilities and services on offer. The Technical Manager will be responsible for managing daily technical operations and technical maintenance of DARC facilities, equipment and assets. The Technical Manager will lead the technical department through excellent day-to-day member relations including providing technical support and guidance to DARC membership as they navigate their technical experience (both production and post‑production). This position welcomes a tech savvy, communicative production professional who wants to enter into an emerging management role. The ideal candidate is passionate about media art, film and artist‑run production centres, while also understanding the sectoral challenges that artist‑run centres are facing in 2026. They have a knack for collaboration. As a member‑facing role, this position will be on‑site/in person only. Training with the former Technical Manager will be provided. Deadline: January 31, 2026 QUALIFICATIONS Post‑secondary degree/diploma in film, television or broadcast production, post‑production, interactive media, creative industries management, fine arts or arts management; 2+ years experience working in a production or post‑production role; 1 year or more of experience working in a leadership, supervisory or management capacity is a strong asset; Experience working in an artist‑run‑centre environment is a strong asset. COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, make decisions independently, be self‑motivated and consistently meet deadlines; Proven strength in production or post‑production of media art, film and technical projects; on‑set production experience is considered an asset; Competent across various camera platforms from DSLR to Cinema; specific experience with Sony and ARRI cameras considered an asset; Ability to lift equipment up to 40 lbs and use ladders regularly (installation, artist support, etc.), thus At Heights certification, or willingness to obtain it, is highly desired; Able to troubleshoot and problem solve in various “thinking on your feet” scenarios; Awareness and enthusiasm towards emergent technologies and trends in contemporary media art (e.g immersive audio, VR/AR/XR environments); Ability to provide technical support for various media art technologies – from installation, analogue transfer to audio interfaces; Enthusiasm towards non‑proprietary and open source technologies; Ability to work independently and in a team environment; collaboration is an important part of this role, as is the ability to work with DARC’s members directly; Effective personnel manager who can mentor and train new artists, technical staff and collaborators; Strong administrative skills, organizational skills and excellent time management; detail oriented; Strong communication skills; confident in speaking with members and the public in person, by phone and by e‑mail; confident in working with contract staff and collaborative partners; Able to champion DARC’s values and prioritize DARC’s mandate as an artist‑run‑centre; A valid driver’s license is considered a strong asset. KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of current production and post‑production practices, software and equipment; Understanding of how to navigate databases, experimental media, troubleshooting technical issues relating to digital media, film, installation and audio; Advanced understanding of DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and various camera technologies; willingness to learn new technologies and softwares; At Heights certification, or willingness to obtain, is a strong asset; Experience with video editing and worldbuilding softwares such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Cloud, Blender, New Art City, etc.; Ability to understand, maintain and manage a departmental budget; Understanding of navigating databases and project management tools; QBO knowledge an asset; Experience in the not‑for‑profit and/or artist‑run‑centre sector considered a strong asset; Strong inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDEA) awareness and ability to perform duties with care and consideration through these lenses; Understanding of intersectional feminism; Awareness of the unique challenges of artist‑run‑centre sector is considered a strong asset; The ability to speak French or a second language is considered a strong asset. COMPENSATION Salary: Full‑time position (37.5 hours per week), $45,000 per annum. Benefits: Employer paid Health/Dental coverage (option to sign into plan after 3 months), 3 weeks of paid vacation (plus 2 non‑negotiable weeks of paid leave during the centre’s holiday closure), 8 sick days, 2 personal days, emergency leave, generous professional development opportunities, comped access to DARC equipment and workshops, access to events through partners and Arts Court, opportunities to travel and 10 days of unpaid artistic leave per year for full‑time employees to support their artistic practice. The Technical Manager will hold a Monday‑Friday schedule within DARC’s operating hours at our 67 Nicholas St. (Arts Court) office. This position is available as a member‑facing full‑time, on‑site role at DARC located inside Arts Court in downtown Ottawa. Arts Court is accessible by public transit and is a 5 minute walk from the Rideau and uOttawa LRT stations. There is no parking on site. All staff must make themselves available to be onsite as requested by management or as required by their duties outlined above. Occasional after‑hours, weekend and off‑site attendance may be required as necessary for programming events. Some staff travel and development opportunities may take place remotely on evenings and or weekends.
