As a Consulting Director, Impact Assessment with experience leading regulatory and permitting projects, you will be equipped to lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver proposals, EAs/EISs, permit applications, and associated management plans. This is an opportunity to utilize your established relationships with companies, along with your strong project management skills to successfully lead environmental assessments and permitting for large-scale capital projects. The successful candidate will become a leader within ERM Canada’s regulatory and permitting team and will be connected with ERM’s global team of environmental and social experts.

This posting is designed for a resourceful, motivated person with demonstrated experience and skills in environmental assessment and/or permitting for major projects who enjoys problem-solving and leading teams within a challenging and fast-paced multi-stakeholder environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Oversee quality and consistency of EAs/EIS, permit applications and associated management plans, environmental constraints analysis, and development plans to support construction implementation for power and energy projects across Canada.
  2. Contribute to proposal development and lead project scoping; providing mentorship to delivery teams.
  3. Provide technical input and guidance to team members on the application of regulatory and permitting requirements applicable to client projects, to develop technical expertise across sectors and regulatory jurisdictions.
  4. Drive quality across proposal and project deliverables; collaborating with existing team members to elevate consistent product delivery.
  5. Work on multiple projects, supporting management and execution of scope/budget/schedule to meet client's expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  6. Build strong collaborative relationships with clients and ERM employees worldwide.
  7. Actively contribute to ERM’s project management technical community and collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute projects.
  8. Manage and provide regulatory leadership for projects advancing through provincial / territorial / federal environmental assessment and permitting processes. This includes working closely with ERM Partners and Project Managers to provide regulatory support to clients, lead internal technical teams, and ensure the timely delivery of quality products that fully meet the client and regulator’s requirements.
  9. Execute activities such as conducting environmental assessment and/or permit application scoping; managing information requirements/requests; technical writing; researching and reviewing data and regulations/guidance; collecting and integrating input from ERM’s subject matter experts; preparing permit and environmental management plans; delegating GIS, data compilation and desktop publishing assignments to support applications; and developing recommendations for clients.
  10. Partake in ERM internal and external training opportunities to maintain and grow work-related skills and remain current on changes to regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRABLE SKILLS:
  1. BSc or MSc in Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  2. 8-12 years (15 years preferred) of consulting experience in impact assessment and permitting, specifically in the power and energy sector in western Canada.
  3. Expert knowledge of federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and guidelines (in particular, familiarity with environmental assessment and permitting processes in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Yukon, Northwest Territories and/or Nunavut).
  4. Experience in the delivery of multifaceted permitting programs across a spectrum of sectors, primarily energy and renewables.
  5. In-depth knowledge of regulatory and permitting requirements and compliance management as they relate to mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, and transportation projects.
  6. Excellent writing, communication, organization, time, and team management skills.
  7. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and inspire teams in a demanding work environment.
  8. Ability to rise to the challenge in high pressure environments, managing diverse internal and external stakeholders, and becoming energized by a vibrant team of colleagues based across the country and the globe.
  9. Demonstrated experience providing strategic guidance to support clients navigating the regulatory process.
  10. Demonstrated experience providing direction to client consulting teams regarding application content requirements to contribute to successful regulatory reviews.
  11. Leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor collaborative teams, demonstrate ERM values and become a safety ambassador.

This is a full-time position. During peak activity, there will be some overtime required, and meetings with clients may not strictly happen between 9-5 as we work with clients in a variety of time zones.
