We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Bylaw Officer to be a part of the Okotoks Municipal Enforcement Business Centre. The position reports to the Municipal Enforcement Team Leader and will be responsible for duties as such: Play a vital role in preserving public peace and supporting community safety initiatives within the Town. Conduct proactive patrols, engage with the public, and enforce municipal bylaws respectfully and empathetically. Liaise with community groups, schools, and organizations to deliver public awareness programs and foster positive relationships. Investigate complaints, resolve issues, and collaborate with other enforcement agencies and Town departments. Opportunity to participate in ongoing training, process improvements, and special projects, with potential for court appearances and report writing. 75 hours over 2 weeks (mix of 11 and 9 hour shifts) Number of Openings: 1 Standby Rotation Required: Yes Driver's Abstract Required: Yes Police Record Check Required: Yes What you Bring A combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to qualify. A typical way to qualify is equivalency of successful completion of a related diploma (e.g., Criminology, Police Foundations): Require a minimum of 1 or more years related work experience representing continuous learning and career progression. Work experience in bylaw, security or enforcement roles preferred. First Aid and CPR certification. Strong interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy along with proven written and oral communication skills, including public speaking are required. A valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license (non GDL) or provincial equivalent, with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending required. Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance at the level of RCMP ‘Verifiable Reliability’. Must be able to meet the shift requirements which may include evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
