Assistant Manager – Planet Fitness Timmins Planet Fitness – Timmins, ON Address: 1500 Riverside Drive Suite AO2B Timmins ON P4R 1A1 Canada We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join our team. The Assistant Manager will assist in oversight of club operations, build a positive atmosphere for all members, prospective members and guests, and ensure a financially successful club. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in recruiting, hiring, training and developing a high‑performing staff consisting of Member Service Representatives, Trainers and Custodians. Assist in maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for all members, prospective members and guests and ensuring staff follows superior customer service guidelines. Assist in staff management and provide backup support to the Club Manager as needed. Help with scheduling and supervising staff to ensure all shifts are regularly covered. Ensure staff is providing a superior customer experience at all times. Assist in resolving or escalating employee issues or concerns. Assist in approving and processing weekly club payroll, preparing necessary paperwork in a timely manner. Provide backup support as needed for any employee who is absent. Lead by example with involvement in all front‑desk related activities. Greet members and guests providing exceptional customer service. Answer phones in a friendly manner and assist callers with a variety of questions. Check members into the system, tour the club and sign up new members, log amenities and communicate updates or events to members and guests. Facilitate all member requests and help resolve any member issues and questions. Assist in overseeing cleanliness and maintenance of facility. Keep the front desk area and lobby clean and orderly. Participate in regular facility cleaning and club upkeep such as mopping, trash removal, cleaning windows and mirrors, and re‑racking weights. Oversee the safety of employees, members and club property by determining when equipment or facilities are in need of repair and communicating that to the Facilities and Maintenance team in a timely manner. Assist in ordering supplies using a specific budget based on club requirements. Assist in tracking various statistics and reports on a weekly, monthly and annually basis. Assist in managing marketing efforts to ensure staff are aware and trained on all marketing promotions. Other duties as assigned based on club needs. Qualifications / Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma / GED equivalent required. One to two years of experience working in a customer service environment preferably in a similar gym or retail environment. Current CPR certification required. Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite). Strong customer service and problem resolution skills. Solid supervisory diplomacy and listening skills. Hard‑working, enthusiastic, energetic and a passion for health and fitness. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must have a valid driver’s licence, acceptable driving record and own reliable means of transportation. Physical Demands Continual standing and walking during shift. Continual talking in person or on the phone during shift. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Will occasionally encounter toxic chemicals during shift. Responsibilities Lead the team of staff working for Sports and Day Camps including hiring, training, performance management and active coaching and mentoring of staff and volunteers. Ensure high quality of programs and execution of the program design by personal, direct delivery of programs (Basketball, multi‑sport, Badminton, Soccer, etc.). Build relationships with parents, participants, volunteers and staff. Have a high degree of organizational and administrative skill to ensure Association procedures are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary. Volunteer recruitment, interview, train and performance manage. Adhere to policies & procedures that support high standards for Health & Safety and Child Safety & Protection. Provide leadership for summer and seasonal Day Camps including Summer, Winter Break, Teacher’s Convention and Spring Break. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and in‑services. Develop, control and evaluate the Sport budget for your branch, related statistics, and purchase equipment as required. Ensure all administration systems are in place and are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary. Collaborate with the Bookings Team to plan, organize and facilitate group bookings including school groups and birthday parties. Take initiative to support program cycles for Sport & Day Camps including registration, program cancellations and wait‑list management. Assist with the annual YMCA campaign by developing relationships with program participants to raise campaign awareness. Market and promote programs. Provide branch support assuming weekly Duty Manager Shifts and engage Healthy Safety Training and Duty Manager In‑Services. Assist with branch duties such as scheduled duty manager shifts, day camps, registration days, etc. Assist with the annual YMCA campaign by developing relationships with program participants to raise the campaign awareness and raise awareness. Facilitate leadership programs for staff and volunteers. Attend branch and department special events such as Healthy Kids Day, Basketball tournaments, All Sport One Day, etc. Qualifications At least 2 years of experience working with youth. Coaching experience in sports such as Basketball, Soccer, Badminton. National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Fundamentals is an asset. Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certification within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search. Strong customer service attitude and ability to work evenings and weekends. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in changing temperatures. Targeted experience: Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) or Challenges Unlimited (CUI) Level 1; experience with Canadian Sport for Life Model including Physical Literacy; experience with day camps, supervising staff, program development; experience in coaching and sport program delivery with at least one‑year supervisory experience. Strong communication, organizational and administrative skills.
