We are currently searching for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our BC team at Emterra Group. This role supports all four recycling and waste centers and reports to the GM Recycling and Waste Centers and Regional Health & Safety/Risk Manager. The specialist will be instrumental in establishing an actively caring safety culture, working closely with technical teams, and bridging procedural gaps with Metro Vancouver.Position DescriptionWork closely with technical staff and operational teams to understand site-specific processes and safety needs.Lead and maintain exposure risk assessments, emergency response plans, and all safety documentation and manuals.Serve as a primary liaison with customer engineers and safety personnel, confidently influencing and aligning procedures.Conduct incident investigations, identify root causes, and discuss corrective measures with stakeholders. Deliver toolbox talks, training sessions, memos, and safety communications across day and night shifts at four sites.Support responses to incidents such as spillage, air quality compliance, and hazardous waste procedures.Support Joint Health and Safety Committees for the four sites and provide technical guidance on industrial hygiene, heavy equipment, and traffic control.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and emerging safety trends relevant to the industry.Ensure compliance during inspections and audits, bridging gaps between operations, maintenance, and contractual safety requirements.Skills and Qualifications2–5 years of experience in health & safety, preferably in recycling, hazardous waste, landfill operations, oil and gas, or logistics.Proven ability to coach, influence, and manage difficult conversations with staff and external stakeholders.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative, dynamic team.Ability to manage multiple priorities across sites and meet deadlines.Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, industrial hygiene, or equivalent experience and training.CRSP, CSP, or CSE designation (or in progress) is an asset.Experience working in unionized environments.Proven experience designing and delivering safety training and presentations.Excellent command of English (verbal and written) with strong presentation skills.Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Valid driver’s license and ability to travel (~20%).Assertive, confident, and able to bridge technical gaps with external partners.Reasons to Apply, Stay and Grow with Emterra GroupOpportunity to be part of one of Canada’s Greenest EmployersTravel, accommodation, and fuel card provided.Health benefits (drug, dental, vision, LTD, life insurance)Employee Assistance ProgramTuition reimbursement and professional development supportBe part of an entrepreneurial organization that values learning and growthOpportunity to make an impact and drive changeIf you are ready to jumpstart your career and contribute to environmental sustainability, apply now We appreciate all applicants, but only qualified candidates will be contacted.Emterra Group is committed to fostering an equitable, fair, and diverse environment.
