It is expected that the student will work 15-18 hours per week with the possibility of part‑time extension. Salary $25.17 to $38.38 per hour-Master: $25.17 to $31.69; Doctorate: $29.64 to $38.38 - Varies as per level of education and experience. To be considered for Research Affiliate Program (RAP) work opportunities, all candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria by the date of appointment: Be recognized as having full‑time student status at an accredited Canadian post‑secondary academic institution (this includes students with a disability deemed to have full‑time status). Individuals pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting applications are encouraged to apply, as proof of enrollment will only be required prior to the start date. Be enrolled in an academic program that requires research as part of the curriculum. Be at least the minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located. Duties Operate lab‑scale digester (should follow the protocol designed by the project team) to treat chicken/dairy manures. Monitor the performance of the digesters in terms of methane production and quality, VFA and other significant analysis. Trouble‑shooting ability to recover the inhibitions during the process. Interpretation of data and reporting to supervisor every fortnight. Collaborating with nutrient recovery project team within this project structure. Work environment Sherbrooke Research and Development Centre is specialized in innovative research primarily for the Canadian dairy and swine industries. Research is also conducted to reduce the greenhouse gas contribution associated with livestock production. The Centre is working towards developing an anaerobic fermentation system for animal waste. The key feature of this system is that it can function at low temperatures. It is a bilingual environment, however, the language exercised in the scientific tasks is in English. Two RAP students are expected to be recruited for the following projects: the project was funded with the possibility of hiring a part‑time student. We are looking for a candidate for a part‑time position to study the operational feasibility of treating chicken, pig and/or dairy cow manures using dry/wet anaerobic digestion process. Ability and willingness to adhere to laboratory safety standards and procedures. Ability and willingness to work overtime. Ability and willingness to work with animal manures. Ability and willingness to move or lift up to 20 kg. You need (essential for the job) Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following Education Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a Master’s or PhD program at a recognized post‑secondary institution with specialization in Environmental/Civil Engineering or Applied Science. Note: Must be currently recognized as having full‑time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and the student must be returning to full‑time studies for your next academic term. Experience Experience* in analyzing physio‑chemical properties of wastewater and interpret data using the appropriate software. In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities. Knowledge Knowledge of operating lab‑scale digesters. Knowledge of laboratory safety practices. Knowledge on design of integrated wastewater treatment systems including microalgae cultivation units.
