We believe that this will guide the organization toward a place of inclusion for all – where equity and access to essential supports and services becomes the reality.What you will be doingResponsibilitiesCoordinates, implements, and leads a two‑hour social recreation program designed to meet the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of older adults and persons living with dementia and their care partners, including one hour of physical fitness and one hour of social recreation activitiesAbides by ASDR’s program policies and proceduresCompletes and reports program attendance for participants and volunteers within 24 hours of each sessionCommunicates to Active Living Coordinator any observances or concerns that could be affecting participants engagement or attendance at the program following each session for documentation purposesIncludes the following components during fitness class: warm up, cardiovascular portion, balance, strength training, stretching and cool downTransports all required social recreation & fitness materials and assists with set up and take down of the fitness programDress in proper attire for a leader of a fitness class; clean, tidy, and demonstrating adequate coverageProvision of low volume lyric‑free music (ideally) and music suited to each exercise segmentCollaborates with program volunteers to assist in the delivery of the MIM programFacilitation of a fun, safe social environment conducive to group cohesion and relationship buildingAssists with program evaluation in conjunction with the Active Living CoordinatorParticipation in ASDR orientation and training as relevant to Minds in Motion programRelationshipsThe Minds in Motion Facilitator works as part of a multi‑member team and has working relationships with Active Living Coordinator, Active Living Manager, and Volunteer Coordinator. They also maintain working relationships with clients, donors, professional colleagues, and community partners.What you will bring alongEducation & Formal TrainingCertification in good standing as a Fitness Instructor/Personal TrainerSeniors Fitness Instructor Certification in good standing considered an assetExperience facilitating programs for seniors and/or persons living with dementia an assetParticipation in the training provided by Alzheimer Society, specific to Minds in Motion including:DICE (Dementia‑Inclusive Choices for Exercise) TrainingMinds in Motion and program evaluation overviewSpecific training to the physical activity program curriculumOther Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or CertificationsCertification in good standing as a Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer (e.g., Senior Fitness Instructor Course)Senior Fitness Training certification or experience facilitating fitness programs for seniors an assetCurrent First Aid and CPR certification requiredClear criminal record check including Vulnerable Sector Check; conducted no more than 1 month prior to commencement of contractThe Contractor agrees to obtain and maintain appropriate liability and errors & omissions insurance coverage in a minimum amount of $2,000,000.00Possess personal qualities of tact, discretion, maturityDemonstrated leadership, organizational, time management and coordination skillsAbility to work effectively with volunteersSuperior communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal skillsShows initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulnessDemonstrates above average problem‑solving abilitiesWorks well as part of a team and is also able to set individual prioritiesBilingualism considered an assetTravel RequirementsValid Ontario Driver’s license and insured vehicle available to travel throughout Durham RegionPhysical DemandsAbility to run fitness program for 45‑60 minutes in lengthAssist with arrangement of furniture (tables/chairs)Carrying/distributing exercise equipment (e.g. weights) and other program suppliesTo ApplyPlease submit your resume with cover letter to jobs@alzheimerdurham.comPosition is open until filledPlease include the job title in the subject line.Applications will be accepted by email only.
