Your opportunity The Faculty of Arts & Science’s 2020-2025 Academic Plan calls for an ambitious plan to expand experiential learning opportunities available to undergraduate students across all Arts & Science disciplines. The Faculty is committed to preparing students for lifelong success in the labour market and deepening relationships with local partners in the public, private and non-profit sectors. The Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) provides specialized professional development training and paid work-integrated learning opportunities for Arts & Science students across 61 different academic programs, with plans for annual growth. Participation in the ASIP stream will allow students to explore career options, apply their academic learning in a professional context, gain valuable work experience, and build a professional network. Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Learning & Professional Development, the Student Learning & Professional Development Coordinator (SLPD) will help develop, promote, implement, and evaluate a wide range of career development supports and professional development curriculum for students within the ASIP stream. The SLPD Coordinator will work with students both individually and in groups to enhance their learning and to prepare them for work term and future career success. Typical activities will include coaching students on their personal marketing documents, interview skills, industry trends, job search strategies, helping them navigate career decision making, overseeing the peer mentorship program, and planning professional development events. The SLPD Coordinator, together with the rest of the ASIP Student Development team, will also develop and deliver a series of mandatory professional development courses that will augment student learning and development, including growing entrepreneurial and workplace innovation skillsets in our students. The courses are delivered both asynchronously on Quercus (Canvas) and synchronously through bi-weekly in-person and remote sessions. The SLPD Coordinator will work closely with the Employer Relations Team, employers and industry partners to ensure professional development training is current and relevant and meets employer and student needs and expectations. The incumbent will be strongly committed to student success and equity, diversity and inclusion. Note: this is a term position to April 2027 Your responsibilities will include: Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities Implementing programming to foster students' individual career development process Developing learning outcomes for workshops and/or services Facilitating educational workshops and seminars Advising students on employment options and strategies to achieve their career goals Advising students on job search, industry research and networking strategies including cover letter, resume and interview preparation Advising and coaching students on the selection of appropriate work-integrated learning opportunities Developing and implementing plans to enhance student engagement activities Essential Qualifications: Master's Degree in Education, Counselling or a related area, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience. Minimum three (3) years of experience providing direct support to students, new graduates, or individuals in the areas of career, skill development, and/or career transition. Experience working with a range of e-learning authoring tools and learning management systems, such as Quercus (Canvas). Experience in program planning, training development or curriculum design. Experience as a presenter, facilitator and communicator with the ability to effectively facilitate discussions to achieve appropriate outcomes. Experience developing and delivering synchronous and/or asynchronous online and in-person education. Demonstrated expertise in one-on-one student advising or counselling, preferably within a career development context. Thorough knowledge and understanding of best practices in advising, career development theory, career coaching, job search skills and presentation skills. Experience developing and maintaining employer or industry partnerships. Experience in coordinating projects with external partners. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and access. Strong project management skills, including the ability to stay on track of tasks while managing multiple projects and activities at the same time. Ability to show sound judgement in dealing with confidential information and a keen sensitivity to the personal nature of student issues. Must be an excellent communicator with demonstrated strong verbal, written and listening skills. A high degree of initiative and self-motivation required. Assets (Nonessential): Understanding of AODA compliance requirements in relation to course/program design, development and delivery. Knowledge of labour market trends, workplace standards and rights, and recruiting practices. Knowledge of Universal Design principles in building inclusive curriculum. Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt rapidly to new situations. Experience working with diverse student communities is a significant asset.
