Company Description Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package. As Ontario Transit Group, we are mobilizing our design and construction crews for major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030. The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction. Project Overview Six‑kilometre tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River) Stations: One above‑ground station integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station. Two underground stations integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations. Four new underground stations: King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown. Expected completion: 2030 Peak construction jobs: 1,500 The Benefits to Ontario Faster, more frequent, and reliable access to rapid transit, with more than 227,500 people living within a 10‑minute walk of an Ontario Line station. Improved quality of life for commuters by reducing daily travel time. Reduced crowding on the existing Line 1 (Yonge‑University) subway. Up to 57,000 more jobs will be accessible by transit (in 45 minutes or less) for Toronto residents. Economic and community growth along the future transit line and thousands of job opportunities annually during construction. Reduction in traffic congestion, greenhouse gases, and fuel consumption by providing an alternative transportation option. Position Summary Co‑op role estimated to start in May 2026 for a twelve‑ to sixteen‑month term. Job Description Ensure that all OTG construction sites comply with local health and safety regulations, codes, and industry standards. Assist in regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols. Assist in developing and delivering safety training programs for employees, subcontractors, and suppliers, emphasizing safe work practices and procedures. Assist in incident reporting and investigation processes, including near‑miss reporting, and work with teams to implement corrective actions. Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, safety inspection findings, and training records, and prepare reports for review. Assist in promoting safety awareness by facilitating safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns to engage employees in safety initiatives. Assist in developing and implementing emergency response plans, ensuring employees are adequately trained in response procedures. Identify opportunities for safety improvement, provide recommendations, and collaborate with project teams to implement safety enhancements. Assist in evaluating the safety performance of subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring they meet OTG's safety standards. Stay informed about changes in health and safety regulations, codes, and best practices, and communicate relevant updates to project teams. Qualifications Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Knowledge of local health and safety regulations, codes, and industry standards. Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Commitment to promoting a safe and healthy work environment, with the ability to engage and influence others in safety initiatives. Strong analytical skills and a problem‑solving mindset; you embrace challenges Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you’re an effective communicator.\ Ability to work independently while also thriving in a team environment; you’re adaptable A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy; you ensure nothing is overlooked. Ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment; you enjoy learning from various fields. Must hold a valid G driver’s license with a clean driving record. Willing and able to work outdoors.
