Under direct supervision from the Patrol Supervisor and Patrol Manager, Patrollers assist in the day-to-day safety operations of the mountain; providing first aid for injured guests and staff, placing and maintaining all ski area and snowshoe fencing, rope lines, tower pads and signage, weather reporting, avalanche control and education, and other risk management initiatives.Essential Job FunctionsProviding first aid for injured guests and staffOpening and closing of ski runs in accordance with the Risk Management section of the Grouse Patrol S.O.PPlacing and maintaining all Ski Area and Snowshoe fencing, rope lines, tower pads, and signage.Reporting morning weather observationsAvalanche control and educationResponding to Emergency Procedures as requiredResponsible for maintaining ski area risk management strategiesEducating staff and guests about the Alpine Responsibility Code.Acting as a safety resource for all staff from all other departments and assisting where required in creating a good safety culture at Grouse Mountain.Other duties as required.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position reports directly to the Patrol Supervisor and Patrol Manager, with no direct supervisory responsibilities.Required Qualifications and AbilitiesMinimum Qualifications:Occupational First Aid Level 3Non-Urban Emergency CareBC Licensed EMR or PCPExpert skiing/snowboarding ability in all terrain and conditionsSuccessful candidate must complete a criminal record check once offered the position; the check must be completed prior to start date if you are 19 years and older. Grouse Mountain will assist you with the process.Preferred Qualifications:Previous Patrol ExperienceMountaineering, rock climbing and/or backcountry travel experienceRope rescue or rope access experienceExperience operating snowmobilesAvalanche awareness or operations trainingExperience with public relations/customer serviceExperience with Advanced protocols such as: Entonox, Sager, Epinephrine, Salbutamol, Nitroglycerin administration, Methoxyflurane, Advanced CPRWorking ConditionsPatrollers perform most of their duties outdoors and may work in all different kinds of weather conditions. Hours of operation are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include rotation of shifts, day/evening shifts, and weekends and statutory holidays.
