Opportunity The Purchasing Manager will actively manage the day‑to‑day procurement for the St. Boniface division, ensuring supply continuity, strong supplier relationships, and high performance in quality, cost, and delivery. The role requires superior negotiation, project management, and coaching skills, and the ability to thrive amid ambiguity to meet business financial targets. Responsibilities Collaborate with Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Planning & Scheduling to align strategic and tactical objectives. Develop and execute steel sourcing strategies aligned with forecasts and market trends. Monitor global and regional steel indices to inform timing and decisions. Lead negotiations with mills, service centres, and brokers to secure optimal pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms. Evaluate and mitigate risks around steel availability, tariffs, and geopolitical factors. Align steel specifications with cost and availability in partnership with Engineering and Manufacturing. Ensure supply continuity while managing inventory, cost, quality, delivery and warranty. Develop internal benchmarks and metrics to support AGI and ONE AGI Supply Chain objectives. Manage the S&OP process and make decisions that benefit the business. Participate in developing multi‑year savings plans. Implement category strategies and build positive relationships with internal partners and suppliers. Support supplier selection and contract negotiation for key projects. Maintain supplier relationship management programs for strategic and critical suppliers. Resolve supplier issues and drive standardization and efficiency improvements across the purchasing team. Coach and mentor the purchasing team, supporting succession planning and talent development. Follow AGI’s Code of Business Ethics and related compliance policies. Qualifications Post‑secondary education in business or equivalent. 5‑7 years of progressive purchasing and inventory management experience, preferably in manufacturing. Proven experience in steel purchasing within an industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of steel grades, specifications, and applications. Demonstrated success in negotiating steel contracts and managing supplier performance. Familiarity with steel market forecasting tools and cost modelling. Knowledge of safety stock levels, min/max levels, reorder points, and inventory turns. Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong interpersonal skills: customer service, listening, teamwork, and follow‑through. Basic math, statistical and accounting skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, phone etiquette, tact and discretion. Decision‑making and analytical/problem‑solving skills. Conflict resolution, relationship building, sales and negotiation skills. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. Organized, detail‑oriented and results‑driven.
