Team Leader, Accounts Payable

Team Leader, Accounts Payable McMillan LLP, Canada’s leading business law firm, is looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to lead our Accounts Payable department on a national level. The role is hybrid, combining remote work and in‑office time in Toronto. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) Provide leadership, guidance, training and development to the Accounts Payable team Ensure all requests are processed and addressed in a timely manner Allocate and monitor workload amongst team members Ensure all control processes, policies and procedures are properly documented and streamlined where necessary Identify, evaluate and implement process improvement initiatives relating to Accounts Payable Coordinate and participate in testing for system upgrades and other enhancements as Accounts Payable subject matter expert Assist in completion of annual performance reviews Liaise with the business, management and other members of the finance team to ensure needs are addressed in a timely manner Ensure accurate and timely processing of expense claims, vendor invoices, credit cards and client disbursements, including review of taxes, coding, supporting documents, authorization and adherence with Firm Policies Upload and process BCSC, SEDAR and courier files and reconcile to bank statements and invoices Review and complete daily rush payments and weekly pay runs including payment by cheque, EFT, ACH, bill payments and wire transfers Process payments through the online banking platform Review and manage the AP inbox to ensure all queries are addressed promptly Run Intapp Flow reports and follow up with firm members to ensure all requests are processed and approved promptly Review the AP subledger and resolve aged AP items and credit notes Reconcile monthly vendor statements and coordinate with internal departments and vendors regarding outstanding invoices Investigate and address outstanding cheques Review new vendor creation and maintain existing vendor setups in the accounting system Compile back‑up for auditors or firm members as requested Assist in systems testing for Accounts Payable functions Support AP change initiatives and special projects Perform other responsibilities as required What You Bring (Qualifications) Established key resource experience in finance Graduate of a recognized community college or university with a focus in accounting Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a flexible, can‑do attitude toward all job responsibilities Strong administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills; detail‑oriented with ability to meet deadlines effectively Independent and team‑oriented work style, consistently providing exceptional client service Embraces evolving technology and strong skills in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel Strong background in accounts payable with experience taking on increasing levels of responsibility over time McMillan Offers You Growth opportunities Mentorship and support Training as software evolves Commensurate compensation and benefits package Fun work environment McMillan is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity.
