Acting as a strategic finance business partner to Plant and Operations leadership, this role drives financial performance, cost discipline, and operational insight across the full profit and loss statement. The Plant Controller blends strong technical accounting expertise with deep operational engagement on the plant floor. This role translates operational activity into meaningful financial insights, enabling data-driven decision-making that supports productivity, efficiency, profitability, and long-term growth. The position requires both strategic thinking and practical execution, with meaningful time spent in the plants to understand processes, identify opportunities, and influence outcomes. Role Specific Requirements Financial Leadership & Business Partnership Serve as a strategic finance partner to Plant Managers and site leadership teams, ensuring ownership and accountability for financial performance. Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain to link financial outcomes with operational drivers such as throughput, labour efficiency, material flow, and equipment utilization. Challenge assumptions and support fact-based, data-driven decision-making. Provide financial guidance, analysis, and recommendations to drive business growth, efficiency, and profitability. Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting Lead all aspects of plant financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and internal reporting. Analyze trends and patterns, assess financial and operational impacts, and recommend corrective or improvement actions. Prepare and present clear, insightful plant financials, scorecards, KPIs, and performance updates to plant and business leadership. Develop annual operating plans and rolling forecasts in collaboration with plant leadership. Cost Accounting, Inventory & Controls Oversee standard costing, product costing, inventory valuation, overhead allocation, and cost accounting processes. Drive sustainable cost reduction initiatives and process improvements across manufacturing and supply chain. Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with corporate policies, audit requirements, and applicable accounting standards in Canada and the U.S. Analyze material, labor, overhead, usage, yield, and efficiency variances; identify root causes and corrective actions. Lead physical inventories, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy initiatives. Month End Close & Compliance Manage select responsibilities related to the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Maintain current, accurate, and complete accounting and reporting of product costs, inventory, assets, and overhead. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, and corporate governance standards. Collaboration Work closely with Corporate Finance, FP&A, and other functional teams to ensure alignment, consistency, and best practices. Contribute to strategic initiatives, special projects, and long-term planning efforts. Other Requirements Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 8+ years of progressive experience as a Plant Controller within a manufacturing environment, with strong product costing expertise. In-depth knowledge of standard costing, inventory management, and manufacturing cost structures. Proven ability to translate financial data into actionable operational insights. Advanced analytical, forecasting, and financial modeling skills. Experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence non-financial stakeholders. Desirable CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation (strongly preferred). Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (MBA) considered an asset. Multi-site manufacturing experience. Prior people management experience. Experience supporting continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, or operational excellence initiatives. Compensation & Benefits Compensation & Benefits.
