ROLE PURPOSE This position will provide casework and support to residents of Connective's programs to enhance their quality of life, to promote independence, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counselling and/or rehabilitative plans. STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION Unionized. This position is open to all applicants. HOURS (MULTIPLE LINES AVAILABLE) 16 hours per week: Saturday & Sunday, 1600 - 0000 32 hours per week: Friday to Monday, 1600 - 0000 32 hours per week: Friday to Monday, 0800 - 1600 32 hours per week: Friday to Monday, 0000 - 0800 WHAT WE OFFER? Documents and implements the plan and provides input into the evaluation of the program. Evaluates client needs and develops short-term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families. Works directly with additional staff (i.e., Social Workers and Outreach Workers), community service and support providers, government and non-government organizations, and Indigenous service providers to inform the development and implementation of individual support plans consistent with harm reduction and Connective’s philosophies and practices. Assists residents to function more independently and achieve greater housing stability. Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities. Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public. Administers medication to residents in accordance with established policy. Ensure health and safety standards are maintained. Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing the property.Complete regular and routine walk-through checks of the property and immediately surrounding area. Reviews and evaluates residents’ progress and adjusts programs as required. Provides feedback and support to residents and/or their families. Maintains/provides either written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress in accordance with policy and standards. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate. Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community. Along with the other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services. Provides input into meal scheduling and preparation, including food inventory. As assigned, organizes, executes, and oversees the preparation of meals and involves the residents in this process. Participates in team meetings as instructed by the Program Manager. Other duties as subsequently negotiated. WORKING CONDITIONS Functions independently, while remaining a crucial member of the care team Adheres to Connective policies and procedures Is available to work flexible hours as needed, which may include some evenings/weekends, as determined by program/client needs and schedules Is a member of CUPE Local 1936-11 Receives benefits and works within the working conditions as outlined in the collective agreement and personnel manual EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Graduated with a Diploma in a related human/social service field and one-year of related experience Experience with clients with a history of conflict with the law, developmental disabilities and/or spectrum disorders, experiencing homelessness, interaction with social agencies and experiencing mental health challenges Experience working with Indigenous communities A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities Demonstrated ability to deal with potential violence Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English REQUIREMENTS Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check Ability to successfully complete a Reference Check Willing to complete Food Safe Certification (Level 1) COMPENSATION As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.95 to $29.76 per hour. Plus benefits enrollment as per the Collective Agreement. Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
