Emergency Medicine Physician – Full Time Join Health Match BC to apply for the Emergency Medicine role. Role and Facility Information Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) and Eagle Ridge Hospital (ERH) are seeking full‑time Emergency Physicians to join our physician group (Columbia Emergency Physicians Association). Successful applicants will have CCFP(EM) or FRCPC(EM) certification and will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. PALS or APLS certification within five years is also required for work within the region. ABEM certified applicants are also eligible. Previous experience in a high‑volume, high‑acuity Emergency Department is preferable, as is work experience with trauma and pediatric populations. ATLS or other trauma‑based certification (e.g., STRUC) is highly recommended. Priority will be given to those applicants with experience and/or interest in research, quality improvement, physician leadership, education, simulation, and geriatric emergency medicine. We are looking to hire applicants who will contribute to increasing the diversity of our sites, and EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusivity) principles guide hiring practices for our departments. Compensation Compensation for a full‑time Emergency Physician (~13 shifts per month) is approximately $400,000+ per year. Locum/temporary work opportunities are also available. Work Environment & Schedule Our collegial, cohesive group of emergency physicians now numbers approximately 70 and is one of the largest in the country. Scheduling is flexible and accommodates many different physician preferences for shift distribution. The group has established maternity/paternity leave policies, vacation and senior‑member plans, and an option for sabbaticals for interested physicians. Clinical practice between RCH and ERH is highly enjoyable given the variety provided by the two sites and the diverse populations that present from throughout the Fraser Health region. Education & Teaching Royal Columbian Hospital hosts two residents per year in the FRCP Emergency Medicine training program at UBC. As a physician at RCH/ERH you will be expected to attain a faculty appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and will teach residents and UBC medical students on shift. Opportunities exist for further involvement in education in both undergraduate and postgraduate medicine at UBC. Facilities Royal Columbian Hospital – tertiary provincial referral hospital located in New Westminster, BC. It offers medical and surgical services, advanced diagnostics & imaging, interventional radiology, critical care, inpatient pediatrics, level 1 & 3 obstetrics, neonatology/NICU, cardiac surgery, neurosciences, other tertiary programs as well as 24/7 emergency services with approximately 80,000 visits annually. It is the only level‑1 accredited trauma center in Fraser Health and hosts the only cardiac catheterization/STEMI program within the region, making the ED one of the highest‑acuity departments in Western Canada. The new ED will house 75 beds including a 4‑bay resuscitation area, a satellite medical imaging area, and a dedicated ED procedure room. Eagle Ridge Hospital – community hospital located in Port Moody, BC. The Emergency Department has recently undergone an extensive renovation and expansion. It offers medical, surgical, rehabilitation, cardiac and diabetes outpatient programs, as well as 24/7 emergency services with over 50,000 visits annually. Eagle Ridge has robust hospitalist and internal medicine services which contribute to a collegial atmosphere. The site sees a large variety of ED presentations including approximately 15% pediatric visits. Location & Lifestyle Both Eagle Ridge and Royal Columbian Hospitals are located within a 30‑40‑minute drive of downtown Vancouver. The region boasts beautiful coastal mountains and a variety of outdoor activities such as skiing, biking, climbing, hiking, and water sports, while Vancouver offers cultural and artistic amenities of a cosmopolitan city. Apply Interested applicants are asked to provide a CV and letter of interest when applying. About Fraser Health Fraser Health is the heart of healthcare for over two million people in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Canada, on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Coast Salish and Nlaka’pamux Nations and is home to 32 First Nations within the Fraser Salish region.
