Tissue Recovery Coordinator (Barrie- Huntsville) Join to apply for the Tissue Recovery Coordinator (Barrie- Huntsville) role at Ontario Health | Santé Ontario. Reporting to: Manager, Ocular Recovery – Tissue Classification: Tissue Recovery Coordinator (TRC) Worksite: 483 Bay Street, Toronto Schedule: Combination of weekday and weekend 24‑hour on‑call shifts over a 6‑week rotation. Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN), part of Ontario Health, coordinates organ and tissue donation and transplantation in Ontario. The role involves significant travel in the Barrie‑Huntsville region and, as required, across the province for the surgical recovery of human eyes. It offers the opportunity to develop expertise in the surgical recovery phase of the tissue donation process. Benefits Ability to make a significant impact on the tissue donation and transplantation process in Ontario Unionized (Service Employees International Union) Full health and dental benefits from day 1; premiums paid by employer Eligible for the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) Eligible for paid vacation Eligible for sick time Eligible for pregnancy and parental top‑up Flexible schedule Here Is What You Will Be Doing Perform the surgical recovery of eye tissue (in‑situ/corneal excision and whole globe) from deceased individuals Package and transport tissues in accordance with TGLN and Health Canada standards using aseptic technique Assist with the recovery of human heart valves, skin and muscle‑skeletal tissues as required Coordinate the tissue recovery process, including assessing medical suitability of potential donors in collaboration with the TGLN team Screen, evaluate, package and transport human tissue, and collect blood and other test samples per TGLN standards Perform technical duties such as medical chart review, blood draw, physical examination of the deceased, and other responsibilities Collaborate with TGLN’s Provincial Resource Centre and local healthcare professionals throughout the process Ensure accurate and complete documentation; review for compliance with established processes Maintain and prepare equipment and supplies Assist with projects and develop processes and documentation Perform quality control functions related to the role Perform other duties as required Here Is What You Will Need To Be Successful Education and Experience University degree or college diploma in health sciences, nursing (RPN), funeral services, pathology assistant, paramedicine, biological sciences, or a recognized equivalent (required) Four (4) years’ experience in a health sciences environment—operating room, pathology, paramedicine, funeral services, or clinical laboratory (preferred) or a combination of equivalent experience and education Certification in eye or tissue banking, blood banking, or laboratory technology (asset) Experience in organ and tissue donation, tissue recovery, and/or processing (asset) Valid class G driver’s licence without restrictions; reliable vehicle (required) Ability to drive long distances (required) Ability to work a variety of 24‑hour on‑call shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays (required) Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and move patients with similar forces (required) Ability to travel within the assigned area and, occasionally, across the province—may include flights (required) Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated superior written and oral communication skills In‑depth knowledge of biological and health sciences, quality assurance, and aseptic technique (preferred) Proven ability to maintain and protect patient confidentiality; discretion, sound judgment, and attention to detail Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team Good hand‑eye coordination, fine motor skills, and surgical conscience (required) Employment Location Barrie/Huntsville region.
