Executive Recruiter | Connecting Top Talent with Industry Leaders Location: Toronto Level: Principal Engineer Reports To: VP of Engineering, North America Base pay range $125,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr Role Purpose Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less senior engineers and technicians while driving complex projects to successful completion. Serve as a technical expert within the team and supervise small project teams as required. Key Responsibilities Design: Lead design efforts involving: Mechanical systems Structural systems Hydraulic systems Electromechanical assemblies Weldments Calculations: Perform and verify structural calculations per ANSI/AISC 360 or Canadian equivalents (CSA-S16, CSA-S157). Conduct welding calculations in accordance with AWS D1.1/D1.2 and CSA W47/59. Size and validate key components such as electric motors, gearboxes, hydraulic motors, powerpacks, cylinders, and brakes. Execute and document hand calculations to justify design development. Review and check mechanical design work, drawings, and calculations produced by others. Guide and mentor less experienced engineers and designers. Contribute to performance evaluations and technical development. Ensure designs and activities comply with relevant standards and codes, including: OSHA (1910 Subparts D & F, 1926 Subparts L & M) Cal/OSHA (Title 8, Subchapter 7) ASME A120.1 – Safety Requirements for Powered Platforms NYSDOL Title 12, Chapter I, Part 21 – Window Cleaning Safety CSA Standards (Z91-17, Z271-20) Applicable advisory standards for suspended scaffolds and hoisting equipment Responsible For: Team members assigned to specific projects under direct supervision. Collaborates With: Engineering team members, Project Managers, Sales, and Clients. Position Requirements Personal Attributes Excellent communication skills in English. Strong attention to detail. Positive, team-oriented attitude. Skills & Knowledge Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MathCAD, and Microsoft Office. Strong conceptualization and problem-solving skills for kinematic and dynamic systems. Deep understanding of: Welding symbols GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis Engineering drawings (sketches, layouts, production, machining, and fabrication) Experience with large-scale steel and aluminum fabrication in industrial or civil environments. Familiarity with building and structural codes. Ability to perform algebraic calculations for weight, force, moment, and statics, and apply them to design sizing. Experience Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in machine design or heavy machinery for civil or construction applications. Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) designation required. Qualifications Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering. Preferred: Graduate degree in a related field. Canadian citizenship or permanent residency required. Ability to travel to the United States.
