Senior Finance Officer

Pacific Opera Victoria is seeking a dedicated Senior Finance Officer to join our administrative team. You are an Accountant on the rise or a Senior Bookkeeper with years of operational excellence. This role is a full‑time permanent position, which offers stability, responsibility, and the opportunity to work in a creative non‑profit environment. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage the daily flow and accurate entry of financial data, maintain the General Ledger, and provide essential administrative accounting support. Handle all vendor payments, invoice verification, customer invoicing, and manage receivables collection. Execute accurate and timely payroll for staff and seasonal artists, including preparation and posting of all associated payroll journal entries. Perform monthly bank, credit card, and account reconciliations. Prepare account analysis and other ad‑hoc analysis as required. Maintain up‑to‑date financial documentation and proactively identify opportunities for workflow improvements. Ensure adherence to financial policies, legal compliance, assist with internal and external audits. Assist with month‑end and year‑end close procedures, including preparing data for grant reporting. QUALIFICATIONS Qualified applicants will demonstrate - A Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. A minimum of 5 years of accounting and full‑cycle bookkeeping experience. Understanding of accounting principles Progress toward a CPA is an asset, but deep and relevant operational experience may be substituted. Prior experience with Sage 300 and Sage 50 is preferred. Previous experience in a non‑profit or charitable setting is an asset. Strong working knowledge of Excel MS Office applications and computerized accounting systems. Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or valid Canadian work permit with 2+ years validity required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to see the bigger picture. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Estimated salary of $65,000-$75,000 per year contingent on experience.
