OverviewJob Summary: The Developmental Services Psychologist is responsible to plan, develop, organize, deliver and evaluate psychological assessments and diagnosis for Indigenous children and youth in Sioux Lookout and in the 33 First Nation Communities SLFNHA supports. Funded by Jordan’s Principal this Psychologist will have an enormous impact on the wellbeing of the children in this region by providing specialized psychological assessment, diagnosis and interventions. Working with an interdisciplinary team the psychologist will have the opportunity to utilize psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing to identify and support children and youth who have autism, FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) and other developmental disabilities.Candidate can be located out of Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, or SLFNHA served First Nation community2025 Salary Range: $134,485 - $196,392Position Type: Full TimePosting Type: This job posting is for an existing vacancy.QualificationsPhD in Psychology from an accredited institutionRegistered with professional body in OntarioWill consider a psychological associate with a condition of employment to obtain a PsyD in a timeframe acceptable by employerPrior experience administering psychoeducational and neuropsychological testingMinimum one year of direct clinical experience in the area Developmental disabilities and mental healthSupervisory/management and/or practice management experience requiredSuperb interpersonal skills and relationship building skillsAbility to exhibit a high level of organizational skills, prioritizing and multi-tasking skills in a highly active work environment with multiple priorities with strict deadlinesCritical thinking skills, innovative solutions to simple and complex issuesNegotiation and influencing skills; strong conflict management skillsDemonstrated experience or good knowledge of techniques for developing, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation; innovative thinkerAbility to effect change and help teams manage effectively during changeMust be skilled in finance including how to create a budget and manage budgets effectivelyProficiency in computer, typing, word processing skills, and previous experience with EMR an assetExcellent written and verbal communication skillsSuperior data management, analytical, report and proposal writing skillsExtensive knowledge and assessment/counselling experience with mental health and addictions; assessing and counselling clients in areas related to high-risk, trauma, addictions, PTSD, and mental healthKnowledgeable of First Nations’ people, history, culture, health priorities and social issues; ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region is an assetMust be willing to travel to First Nation communities when necessary, and hold a valid driver’s licenseAbility to perform requirements of position on a regular basisRoles and ResponsibilitiesExtensive experience with children from birth – 18 who have multiple needsThe ability to select appropriate assessment tools in the pediatric population, including behavioral observation, developmental disorders and cognitive disordersAbility to conduct psychological Assessments using a variety of tools.Excellent counselling skillsExperience in providing treatment to address diagnosed psychological disorders in the population served.The ability to case-manage and provide comprehensive care to children and their care-givers in a manner that is respectful and considerate of cultural diversities.Experience working with an interdisciplinary teamExperience establishing clinical guidelines and coordinating mental health programsInvolvement in setting up psychological clinics according to best practiceAbility to supervise and train as necessary students, new psychologists.Capacity to assess the psychological needs of the children and communities and implement appropriate strategies to address these needs taking into consideration the geographical challenges of the communitiesOpenness to developing capacity within the communities to facilitate the delivery of services.Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority focuses on hiring Indigenous employees whenever possible.Candidates are encouraged to self-identify on their application.
