Job Title General Surgeon – Cariboo Memorial Hospital, Williams Lake, BC. Location Williams Lake is in BC’s Central Interior Region, also known as the Cariboo Chilcotin Region, with a population of approximately 35,000; surrounding areas have about 62,000. The area offers outdoor activities year–round.Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) is a Level 2 Community Hospital, currently under renovation, projecting completion in 2026. Job Overview We are seeking a General Surgeon to join our team at CMH. The role offers a broad surgical practice, balancing office, endoscopy, and operating room procedures with a supportive collegial environment and a welcoming community. Optional teaching with third‑year medical students and UBC residents is available. Leadership development through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program is offered. Responsibilities Provide surgical care in the office and operating rooms, with approximately 5 OR and 5 endoscopy days per month, plus bi‑monthly academic–clinical unit (ACU) days for minor procedures. Perform endoscopic procedures and manage on‑call emergencies for gastrointestinal bleeds. Collaborate with the existing full‑time General Surgeons in a combined office practice. Participate in teaching undergraduate medical students and residents (optional). Engage in leadership development through the NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program. Qualifications Board‑eligible or Board‑certified General Surgeon, or recent graduate with surgical training. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Willingness to work in a rural community setting. Compensation and Benefits Fee‑for‑Service compensation: $300,000 – $500,000 plus MOCAP level 1. Eligibility for Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) incentives, including a 12.32% retention premium, a $19,092 flat fee, and a $15,000 recruitment incentive. Relocation funding available: $9,000 – $15,000 based on move location. Annual retention amount of $19,092.48. Rural CME: up to $6,600 per year after 4 years in practice. Potential loan forgiveness under BC or Canada rural loan forgiveness programs.
