General Surgeon – Cariboo Memorial Hospital Williams Lake is in BC’s Central Interior Region, otherwise known as the Cariboo Chilcotin Region, and is famous for the annual Williams Lake Stampede. There is a population of approximately 35,000 in Williams Lake and surrounding areas with a total population of 62,000 for the Cariboo Regional District. A vast array of lakes, rivers and hiking and biking trails, makes Williams Lake and the surrounding area a great place for outdoor enthusiasts to camp, fish, hunt and play during the summer months while winter months bring the enjoyment of snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, and ice fishing for the winter months. Williams Lake has something for everyone. Position We have an excellent opportunity for a General Surgeon to join our team at Cariboo Memorial Hospital. There are currently 2 full‑time General Surgeons at the site. A requirement to perform endoscopic procedures, including on‑call management of GI bleeds. The current General Surgeons have a combined office practice and a new addition would be welcomed into joining the group. There is also an optional teaching component with 3rd year medical students as well as residents through UBC. The closest tertiary hospital is RIH and is 3 hours away. We are excited to add new graduates or experienced general surgeons to our team in Williams Lake. Leadership Development Opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers. Facility Cariboo Memorial is under renovation with planned completion of 2026. Currently, CMH is a Level 2 Community Hospital in Williams Lake with 28 inpatient beds. CMH hospital offers ER, OR, Med‑Surg, and Obstetrical units. Lab and diagnostic imaging and outpatient haemodialysis unit are operated on‑site. The CMH redevelopment project includes an addition to the existing hospital as well as renovations to the existing facility. The addition will add 25 in‑patient beds for a total of 53, a new emergency department and mental‑health unit. Compensation & Benefits Compensation Type: Fee‑for‑Service – Estimated Remuneration $300,000 – $500,000, plus MOCAP level 1 May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including: Retention Premium 12.32%; Retention Flat Fee $19,092; Relocation Funding Available $9,000 – $15,000 based on move location; Recruitment Incentive $15,000 Other Benefits/Incentives: Annual Retention $19,092.48; Rural CME: max $6,600/year after 4 years in practice; Rural Incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer; Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for BC or Canada loan forgiveness programs for those living and working in rural community.
