Senior Specialist, Liability Systems Planning & Design - Hybrid The Opportunity The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Senior Specialist, Liability Systems Planning & Design to join its Liability Management group. This team tackles complex challenges to help protect Alberta’s land, environment, and resources for the future. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in data analytics, systems development, and predictive analytics to deliver meaningful outcomes for Albertans and the environment. You’ll be responsible for measuring licensees’ and industry’s ability to fund and manage their energy development closure activities helping to ensure Alberta’s landscape is preserved for generations to come. This role will develop and identify opportunities for licensees to more effectively manage their liabilities within the province. What your day-to-day will look like: Lead and serve as the subject matter expert for software systems, data management, automation, predictive analytics, and business intelligence initiatives within Liability Management. This includes overseeing the integration of systems and business intelligence into AER tools and processes to effectively manage complex liability issues. Monitor, analyze, model, and forecast data to understand individual and industry-wide behaviour and trends. Guide business areas through business analysis, requirement collection, and process set-up to improve data-based decision making. Collaborate with leaders and senior advisors to proactively develop recommendations using data analysis insights to improve strategies related to timely and orderly closure of infrastructure. Support AER decision makers and industry engagement by providing technical responses to questions about our tools and processes. What we’re looking for in you: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Environmental Science with a strong knowledge of business processes and analytic. 8+ years of regulatory, data analysis, or systems integration experience. Extensive experience in solution architecture and development, including data architecture, data management, predictive analytics, business intelligence, and modern development processes and methodologies. Certificate in analytics (preferably in Business or Data Analytics), Prosci Change Management certificate, or Scrum certificate are assets. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to plan effectively, exercise sound technical judgment, and provide technical leadership. You can translate complex business requirements into innovative, practical technical solutions, informed by industry knowledge and feasibility considerations. A collaborative and adaptable approach, with strong interpersonal and conflict management skills. You can clearly explain complex technical concepts to both internal audiences (AER leadership and staff) and external stakeholders (e.g., industry and government) in a clear and accessible way.
