for an opportunity in the greater Red Deer area to work in an operating plant environment.

Job Description:

  • Drive the development and execution of a multi-year controls roadmap aligned with site risk profile, succession planning needs, and long-term reliability and safety objectives.
  • Lead the resolution of complex process control issues through structured data analysis, root cause analysis, and investigative techniques within safety and basic process control systems.
  • Lead the design and implementation of small to medium I&E capital projects, providing direction to internal and external project team members, including oversight of contract resources.
  • Lead the implementation of findings from the Process Controls Gap Assessment, translating prioritized gaps into executable improvement plans with defined scope, schedule, and risk-based prioritization.
  • Own and maintain the baseline controls documentation set, including control narratives, logic descriptions, Cause & Effect matrices, control philosophy documents, I/O lists, and instrument indices, ensuring alignment with field configuration and applicable standards.
  • Serve as the functional steward for process control documentation, ensuring all changes to control logic, interlocks, alarms, and safety systems are accurately managed through MOC and reflected in controlled documents.
  • Establish and maintain governance for control system lifecycle management, including standards for design, modification, testing, validation, and handover of control system changes.
  • Act as the single point of accountability for controls knowledge retention, ensuring critical system understanding is institutionalized through documentation, training, and standard work practices.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to ensure control philosophy and safety intent are consistently applied across all automated systems, including BPCS, BMS, and SIS.
  • Define and maintain minimum documentation and performance standards for automation systems, aligned with RAGAGEP, corporate engineering standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Provide technical support to I&E maintenance and project engineers as a subject matter advisor in instrument and logic solver modification, instrument and hardware installation, and adherence to RAGAGEP codes and ETC standards as they apply to automated systems. These activities include collaboration with contract resources and corporate subject matter experts.
  • Actively engage with the Operations team to support a safe, reliable, and efficient nitrogen production and distribution facility, including providing in-depth analysis of process events and trends to enable timely improvements.
  • Support and execute MOC tasks, conduct investigations and RCAs, manage work through EtQ, advise TAR scope, and work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to deliver end-to-end risk mitigation through compliance and hazard analysis.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Applied Science, or a recognized professional technologist designation (e.g., P.Tech., C.Tech.), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in a chemical plant or similar industrial environment with responsibilities in process controls, instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience solving complex operational and process control problems using automated solutions.
  • Experience with Foxboro, DeltaV, Triconex, and OSI PI preferred.
  • Competent in process control systems and industrial automation practices.
  • Knowledge of ammonia manufacturing processes is an asset.
  • Be available for callouts to support planned and unplanned downtime events and turnarounds (TAR).
