Our Saskatchewan-based partner requires the support of 4 Sybase Administrators who will provide Sybase database support services including configuring and responding to system and performance alerts 24x7, routine maintenance such as patching, and actioning database-related service requests across production and non-production environments.

These Sybase Administrators will collaborate with the Database Platform Administrators, System Administrators, and Application Support teams as required to maintain system availability targets.

Key Responsibilities:
Monitoring and Alerting Setup:
Set up monitoring and alerting systems for Sybase ASE 16 SP4, Replication Server 16 SP3, and SAP IQ 16.1 on both Oracle Solaris SPARC and Linux servers.
Configure alerts for critical system metrics such as CPU utilization, memory usage, disk space, and replication lag.
Patch Management:
Develop and implement a patch management strategy for keeping Sybase ASE, Replication Server, and SAP IQ up-to-date with the latest service packs and patches.
Schedule regular maintenance windows for applying patches while minimizing downtime for critical business applications.
Performance Tuning:
Conduct regular performance-tuning exercises to optimize the performance of database servers.
Identify and address performance bottlenecks by analyzing query execution plans, index usage, and system resource utilization.
Backup and Recovery Management:
Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures for all production databases.
Perform regular backups and validate the integrity of backup files to ensure data recoverability in case of disasters.
High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) Testing:
Plan and execute periodic HA/DR testing to validate the failover and recovery capabilities of the systems.
Document test results and identify areas for improvement in the HA/DR setup.
Incident Response and Resolution:
Establish a 24x7 on-call rotation for responding to production-affecting incidents.
Develop runbooks and escalation procedures for efficiently resolving incidents and minimizing impact on business operations.
Capacity Planning:
Monitor database growth trends and forecast future capacity requirements.
Work with infrastructure teams to procure additional hardware resources as needed to accommodate growth.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
Maintain up-to-date documentation for all systems, including configuration settings, troubleshooting procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
Conduct regular knowledge-sharing sessions to disseminate best practices and lessons learned among team members.
Security Compliance:
Ensure that database servers comply with relevant security standards and regulations.
Implement access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access or disclosure.
Vendor Support Coordination:
Engage with vendors for technical support and assistance with troubleshooting complex issues.
Keep abreast of new product features and enhancements through vendor communications and forums.

Work Arrangements: This role can be done completely remotely and will need to support core CST working hours. Additionally, there will be a 24/7 rotational support schedule.
Contract Employee Rate: $60-$80/hr.
