Supports include referral, advocacy, goal planning, programming and group facilitation, as well as education and guidance surrounding the Landlord and Tenant Act. Responsibilities Provides guidance and education on the Landlord and Tenant Act to residents of the Putman Apartment Building Works in cooperation with front desk staff, Developmental Services Staff, YWCA Hamilton staff, and assigned Program Supervisor, including full-time, part-time and relief team members Addresses issues or conflicts with tenants to minimize the risk of eviction Acts as liaison between tenants and other departments within the organization (e.g., Maintenance, Front Desk, Gender-based Violence Counselling) Identifies needs for support for tenants and provides referrals internally or with community organizations Collaborates with tenants (including children) on housing, legal, education, employment and mental health to establish and maintain a plan toward independence Conducts check-ins of tenant needs and safety plans Identifies needs for support on trauma and gender-based violence and refers to appropriate supports Works within rules, procedures and standards; refers issues to manager Keeps records and enters information into an electronic data system for reports and statistics Maintains records and reporting per YWCA Hamilton policies and department procedures Communicates, advocates and collaborates with community agencies to provide resources and referrals Offers life skills programming, crisis intervention, supportive counselling, referrals and advocacy Provides programming and co-facilitates group workshops (e.g., organizing, safety plans, anger management) Maintains confidentiality when handling sensitive information Nurtures internal and external working relationships and partnerships Ensures compliance with YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values Performs other duties as required Working Conditions Temporary contract position with availability for weekday, weekend and evening shifts as needed Regularly works in emotionally charged situations requiring resolution Work environment may be hostile at times Qualifications Completion of 2-year college diploma in social work or human services or equivalent experience 1 to 3 years’ experience in crisis management, homelessness and violence against women settings or residential apartment management Working knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Landlord Tenant Act Knowledge of harm reduction frameworks; Naloxone training is an asset Experience in trauma-informed care and in individual and group programming Knowledge and experience in safety planning related to gender-based violence and mental health Experience in conflict resolution through facilitated mediation and restorative practices is an asset Current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost Ability to work from a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective Ability to work varied hours including evenings and weekends Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost Food Handler’s, NCI, and ASIST certificates are assets Knowledge of social housing practices and applicable legislation Experience with housing stability, eviction prevention and housing first principles Bilingual English/French or other languages is an asset As part of YWCA Hamilton’s commitment to access and equity, we strive to represent the diverse communities we serve.
