Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

OverviewSenior Mechanical Design Engineer (HVAC Systems in Critical Facilities) role at Equinix. Mentors junior engineers. Plans, designs, and supports data center HVAC systems. Leads small to medium HVAC projects and the rollout of mechanical HVAC engineering initiatives. Assists with development and implementation of mechanical HVAC engineering design standards, policies and procedures. Interacts with internal and external teams, including design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day-to-day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either a construction project or delivery of operations for a data center facility.ResponsibilitiesProject Management: Leads and manages HVAC projects or other design and engineering initiatives; provides guidance and project leadership to ensure project or initiative is meeting company expectations.System Operation and Work Practices (including Capacity Planning): Expert operating knowledge of critical facilities HVAC engineering systems, including advanced diagnostics and repairs; interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines; collaborates with capacity and site engineering teams to resolve power and/or cooling limitations and optimize resource utilization.Leadership and Communications (including Vendor Management): Mentors junior team members; directs internal and external project team members; directs external vendors per project or initiative (general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.); communicates at an expert level including cross-functional SOP development and technical writing; exchanges information between departments; includes executive-level communications in standardized templates.Policy & Procedure Development and Adherence: Contributes to creating and maintaining policies; reviews and develops policy documents with input from others; ensures adherence to standards and policy through documentation reviews, commissioning activities, design summits and data center physicals.Problem Solving: Solves complex, cross-functional issues with initiative; recommends system-level enhancements to prevent problems; tests component or action plan suitability for deployments.Qualifications7+ years of related experience in a critical facility or data center environmentKnowledge of data center HVAC mechanical engineering designEfficiency and data modelingExperience developing and managing projects with internal and external stakeholdersBachelor\'s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalentBilingual Spanish/English is a plusCompensation and BenefitsThe targeted pay ranges in posting differ by location:United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI: 118,000 - 176,000 USD / AnnualCanada - Toronto Office TRO: 112,000 - 162,000 CAD / AnnualOur pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically. Individual pay is based on factors including job-related skills, experience, and education. The targeted pay range reflects base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
