Role Responsibilities

Are you an expert at Strategic Planning, Leading, Program Delivery, Coordination of information sharing and review? Elevate your career by joining us as a dedicated Planning Lead in Edmonton.

Reporting to the Director, Forest Planning, the Planning Lead contributes significantly to advancing Forestry Division interests and responsibilities under Alberta Lands Stewardship Act (ALSA) initiatives including support for the development of Land-use Framework regional, sub-regional and other plans including, but not limited to, caribou sub-regional plans, Access Management Plans, Remediation and Reclamation Plans, as well as Recreation Management Plans.

The Planning Lead will independently manage and prioritize tasks to meet timelines and inter-Ministry commitments. Where multiple requests for urgent work cannot be met by the available resources, or major new projects would require substantial changes to the current work plan, strategies will be discussed with the Director, Forest Planning.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Representing Forestry interests in the Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas managed Sub-Regional Plan development.
  • Collecting, reviewing, and sharing information and data required for the regional and sub-regional planning processes.
  • Reviewing existing Forestry Division information and planning requirements to assess the current state of the region from a sustainable forest management perspective.
  • Identifying provincial trends while anticipating areas of pressure including projected impacts from the forest disturbance strategies.
  • Monitoring project processes, outputs, deliverables, and time allocations using a variety of project management tools.
  • Ensuring the implementation of regional / sub-regional plans are effectively supported within the Forestry Division through transition planning and continuous communication.
  • Supporting the Director, Forest Planning, and senior branch representatives in achieving the mandate and goals of the Forestry Division and Ministry by providing comprehensive policy advice on complex land use planning issues.

Qualifications

Education:

University degree (4 years) in Science, Natural resources management, Land-use planning, Geological sciences, Environmental planning or a related discipline plus four (4) years of related experience that includes environment planning, project management and leadership.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Additional requirements:
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with Association of Alberta Forest
  • Management Professionals (AAFMP)
Assets:
  • Technology literacy with proficiency in all Microsoft office programs
  • Understanding of Alberta's legislative, policy formulation, legislative development, planning, and accountability
  • Highly detail-oriented with elevated levels of problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-issue environment, serving a wide range of varied internal and external interests
  • Ability to deliver presentations containing highly-technical information using clear language to large and small groups
  • Project management and public consultation/engagement methodologies and techniques
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills and the ability to mentor staff

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity located in Edmonton . This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM - 4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
