Responsibilities and Duties Maintain, service and repair roads and other infrastructure assets per contract standards and supervisor direction. Perform winter and summer road maintenance operations as needed. Set up and remove traffic control devices (cones, message boards, temporary signage, etc.) with a focus on safety. Work comfortably from heights in bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders and aerial platforms lifts. Maintain and repair bridge structures and equipment rooms, including portals, railings, expansion joints, doors and painting. Repair and maintain mechanical assets such as roadway catch basins, sumps, pumps, fire hydrants and other equipment using hand or power tools. Repair and maintain ventilation systems and basic electrical systems (emergency telephones, CCTV, electronic traffic signs, call boxes, lane signals and lighting). Transport crew and equipment to work sites using large trucks, specialized motor vehicles and trailers. Provide emergency response rotations, including overtime, evenings, weekends and holidays. Promote a diverse, inclusive and fair work environment free from discrimination, bullying and harassment. Follow company policies and procedures in all duties. Repair highway surfaces including potholes, striping, reflectors and work with concrete and asphalt. Keep highways and medians clean through litter and debris removal. Maintain vegetation appearance and growth using mowing equipment, trimmers and chemical sprayers. Ensure proper appearance and function of signs, guardrails, fences and lighting. Remove debris, ice and snow from roadways using snow removal and sanding equipment. Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements and maintain safety practices. Perform all other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of underground infrastructure maintenance. Practice safe work methods to remain accident and injury free. Recognize hazards inherent in routine and non‑routine tasks to avoid loss, injury or accident. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with co‑workers and supervisors. Perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, proportions, percentages, measurements). Understand instructions delivered in written, oral or diagram form. Read, write and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Work flexibly and be willing to work extensively to meet business needs. Pay high attention to detail. Takes ownership of responsibilities. Have basic knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in concrete, asphalt repair, construction and maintenance. Skill in using and caring for small hand power tools associated with the work. Interface with the public professionally. Education and Experience High‑school diploma or GED (required). One (1) year of work experience in infrastructure, maintenance and repair (preferred). Valid driver’s license and good driving record to operate company vehicles. CDL, DOT/MTO, electrical and welding certifications (highly desirable). Work Conditions / Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to traffic and outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; insects; and infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents. Noise levels are usually moderate but can be higher on occasion. Physical demands include standing, sitting, walking on a wide range of surfaces; using hands and fingers; reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and talking or hearing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Use of manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric tools and equipment. Vision abilities include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to pass a fit test for a respirator as required. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
