Position Summary The incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through the operation and use of heavy equipment. The role requires a high level of safety awareness, hazard recognition, and proactive communication with co‑workers. The position involves seasonal work from October through April, with a pay range of $30–$32 per hour and a minimum of a DZ license. Primary Duties And Responsibilities Removal of snow and ice using snow removal, sanding equipment, salting, and other seasonal maintenance on roads, bridges, and related assets. Maintain and repair highway surfaces and associated infrastructure including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, reflectors, and debris removal. Set up and remove traffic control devices. Transport crew and equipment to work sites. Participate in emergency response rotations as required for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of related work experience in construction, road maintenance, or commercial/industrial repair. Operational experience with heavy equipment and possession of a DZ license. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Basic proficiency in mathematics and following written and oral instructions. Capacity to adapt to changing demands and priorities and work with hand and power tools, traffic control devices, and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, and augers. Certifications And License Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. An AZ license is a plus. Work Conditions Physical Demands Regular standing, sitting, walking, and use of hands for manipulation and reach. Manual handling of loads up to 50 pounds without assistance. Proficiency in using manual and powered tools and equipment. Strong visual acuity and depth perception. Work Environment Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Potential exposure to wet and/or humid environments, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, insects, and limited exposure to reptiles/rodents. Moderate to high noise levels, occasionally exceeding moderate levels.
