Schedule may change with two weeks’ noticeProbationary/qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviewsNight premium will be given to staff that work 50% or more of their shift between 0:00-08:00 HoursSalary$27.92 - 29.60 depending upon applicants' length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)Job SummaryThe Shelter Resource Worker (SRW) reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. SRWs are direct service staff working within a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week emergency shelter for homeless adults who struggle with a variety of issues such as homelessness, addictions, and mental health. The SRW provides intakes, orientations, and support for guests entering the shelter. The SRW will connect with public service agencies relevant to the needs of the shelter guests.Job DutiesProvide support, supervision, and assistance to homeless adults who may be facing multiple barriersAccept referrals, and identify and share information with a variety of Lookout’s external resourcesRefer guests to a variety of community servicesInterview and provide basic necessities; ensuring a safe and supportive environment for allComplete required records and maintain statistical dataSupport others in the shelter who are in need of assistanceProvide assistance for new staffJob duties are complex and may have a few disagreeable factorEmployees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permittedResponsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety programQualifications & CompetenceRelated Certificate; or minimum Grade 12 education, plus two (2) years of recent related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceFamiliarity with community resources; such as addiction, mental health, income assistance and harm reductionMust have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 CertificateCrisis Intervention Skills (CPI), Naloxone and Trauma Inform Practice training is an assetAbility to work independently or in a team settingStrong ability to manage stress and organize workloadExcellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skillsUnderstands and maintains clientele/worker boundariesAbility to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environmentStrong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks and operate job related equipmentA minimum of two (2) years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug useCriminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector requiredClosing DateApplications will be accepted until July 24, 2025 at 5:00pm“All employees, including laid off and displaced employees, are entitled to apply on the vacancy and be considered pursuant to the provisions of Article 12.9.” Internal applicants must apply through "Career Opportunities" on SAP.
