Camp Counsellor, Child and Youth

Location: 2200 South Sheridan Way, Mississauga, ON L5J 2M4

Job Term: Contract - Full Time

Responsibilities:
  1. Facilitates daily camp activities such as games, art activities, team-building exercises, special events, and educational exhibition-related activities.
  2. Helps to ensure programming is adapted to camper needs with regards to quality, safety, hygiene, weather, breaks etc.
  3. Delivers activity plans as written and/or approved by the Camp Administrators and Program Coordinator.
  4. Prioritizes child well-being, safety and protection throughout the camp. Evaluates situations for potential risks to the safety, protection and well-being of campers and staff, proactively taking mitigating actions to address such risks.
  5. Demonstrates the confidence and ability to make decisions in the best interests of the campers. Resolves problems and conflicts effectively as they arise.
  6. Organizes and assists with set-up and clean-up of camp events, activities and programs.
  7. Maintains positive, constructive relationships with camp staff and volunteers with the goal of meeting camper needs.
  8. Provides regular updates and feedback to the Camp Administrator.
  9. Participates in orientation and training sessions, supporting the Camp Administrator where necessary.
  10. Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  11. Other duties as required.
Key Qualities:
  1. Possesses proven planning and organization skills
  2. Good time management skills, organized, and deadline-oriented
  3. Ability to respond to user requests with patience and enthusiasm
  4. Undertake work with little supervision or assistance, directing one's own efforts
  5. Ability to undertake duties working within a team or independently, as needed
  6. Related degree or diploma in youth work, or similar equivalent experience
  7. Previous Experience in Camp Counseling is considered an asset
Qualifications:
  1. Applicants must be between the ages of 16 to 30 years (inclusive)
  2. Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, for the duration of the employment
  3. Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  4. Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
