PLC Programmer (Wastewater Process)

We are currently looking to hire a skilled PLC programmer with expertise in wastewater management to design and install controller system software for our clients. Within this role, you will be traveling to clients' locations, analyzing system requirements, writing, and installing custom programmable logic code, testing system efficiency, and providing operational support. To ensure success as a PLC programmer, you should have excellent knowledge of machine mechanics, a logical approach, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. A skilled PLC programmer should be able to easily identify and design a robust program fit for any mechanical or electrical purpose.

Job Details:
Salary: $62,400.00 to $93,600.00/Yearly.
Shift: Monday-Friday, Day Shift Direct Hire
Location: Ottawa

Responsibilities:

  1. Traveling to clients' locations.
  2. Meeting with clients to discuss their mechanical or electrical automation needs.
  3. Designing and programming control systems for pumps, valves, and chemical dosing equipment.
  4. Ensuring efficient water treatment and proper wastewater management, contributing to environmental sustainability.
  5. Drawing electrical or mechanical schematics to demonstrate how processes will work.
  6. Developing and installing machine programs using automation software and custom coding languages.
  7. Determining machine automation test criteria before the final installation.
  8. Testing automated systems for efficiency, safety, and reliability.
  9. Troubleshooting system errors.
  10. Overseeing the successful installation of PLC programs.
  11. Documenting development processes.
  12. Providing clients with technical support.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in software engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar field.
  2. PLC technical certification.
  3. 5+ years of experience in water/wastewater process programming.
  4. Experience with Allen-Bradley, Bristol, Modicon PLCs.
  5. Experience with GE Proficy iFix, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Iconics Genesis and Invensys Wonderware HMI software.
  6. Ability to program in multiple languages, including ladder logic, structured text, and VB scripting.
  7. Ability to read and interpret PLC wiring diagrams, Control Narratives and P&ID Drawings.
  8. An Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university is highly preferred.
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  10. Strong technical and analytical proficiency with the ability to multi-task effectively and thrive in a team environment.
  11. EIT certification and programming experience desirable.
  12. Familiarity with water/wastewater applications is extremely important.
