Position Overview: Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Manager – Treasury and Tax is responsible for managing the company’s treasury and tax functions, including effective cash management, banking relationships, and financial risk management, as well as overseeing tax compliance, planning and reporting. This role involves strategic planning, analysis, and execution of treasury operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, with a keen understanding of treasury management, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Treasury Management

  • Develop and implement strategies for efficient cash management, liquidity forecasting, and capital structure and working capital optimization.
  • Oversee daily cash management activities, including bank account reconciliation and cash positioning.
  • Conduct cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning to ensure adequate funding for operations.
  • Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions to secure favorable terms for loans, credit facilities, and other financial services.
  • Monitor and analyze cash flow, working capital, and financial risks; develop strategies to mitigate risks and enhance liquidity.

Tax Management

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal tax regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Review tax returns and financial statements to ensure accuracy and adherence to relevant accounting standards.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize tax positions.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors.
  • Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare and present reports on treasury and tax performance to senior management, as needed.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial data and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide information, data and analysis with regards to treasury and tax to support regulatory processes, rate applications, and other activities, as required.

Risk Management

  • Identify and assess financial risks, including interest rate and liquidity and credit risks.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and hedging programs as needed.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and support a team of treasury and tax professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to treasury and tax functions.
  • Manage departmental budget and resources efficiently.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of Ontario Energy Board Accounting procedures for electric utilities would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, including senior management, external advisors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of driving performance and achieving results.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; li>
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in treasury and tax management, preferably within the utilities or energy sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of treasury operations, financial markets, and ideally the PILs tax regime in Ontario.
