About the Organization
The Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) is a not-for-profit organization that supports and promotes the arts community in the City of Edmonton. The EAC was founded in 1995 and since its inception has been supported through an agreement with the City of Edmonton to fulfill the mandate to increase the profile and involvement of arts and culture in all aspects of community through activities that:
- Invest in Edmonton festivals, arts organizations, and individual artists through municipal, corporate and private funding.
- Represent Edmonton’s arts community to government and other agencies and provide expert advice on issues that affect the arts.
- Build partnerships and initiate projects that strengthen “the arts” throughout the community.
- Create awareness of the quality, variety and value of artistic work produced in Edmonton.
About the Opportunity
The Director, Investments, Services and Partnerships will be part of the senior leadership team and equal contributor to the advancement of the organization. Under the guidance of the Associate Executive Director, Programs, Services and Access, the Director will help translate the strategic direction of the 10-year plan, Connections & Exchanges, into actionable operational plans and priorities for the three teams within their scope of responsibility:
- Arts Development and Investments.
- Arts and Retail Services.
- Community Animation and Creative Partnerships.
The Ideal Candidate
As a forward-thinking leader, you have the proven ability to guide transformational changes toward achieving short, medium, and long-term objectives within the art ecologies of the capital region. Prior direct or indirect experience with the not-for-profit and or charity sector would be an asset. Ideally, you have prior direct involvement in, exposure to, or active support for the arts ecosystem. You possess strategic, operational, and administrative management skills and experience that is consistent with and would be complimentary to this Director role.
You are collaborative and capable of planning and leading the integration and delivery of concurrent multiple special projects and initiatives. You understand the importance of clear communications, engagement, embracing new technology, change facilitation, and developing an inclusive, respectful, and productive team environment. You are eager to embrace practices that welcome and support the inclusion of Indigenous and equity-seeking groups in the community into our programming as a key strategic initiative. Combined with your operational planning and project management skills, you are analytical, outcome-focused, and intuitive to potential risks. At the same time, you are a coach, mentor, and acknowledge and celebrate individual and team successes.
Qualifications
Education:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Arts Management, Business, Marketing, Community Development or a related field.
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) or equivalent not-for-profit board governance certificate would be an asset.
- PROSCI, Change Management certification would be an asset.
Experience and Skills:
- 8-10+ years’ experience in progressive senior leadership roles within the area of administration, organizational management, program management, and or fund development.
- Private or public sector leadership experience in the areas of arts, culture, community, municipal, and or social enterprise.
- Experience leading implementation of strategy among multiple operational teams.
- A highly engaged leader who seeks out opportunities, develops new possibilities, and implements them effectively.
- Strong capacity to establish and work with a variety of private, public and individual partners and stakeholders.
- Experience working within a not-for-profit environment.
- Experience engaging with a Board of Directors and working at the executive leadership team level.
- Capacity to manage budgets, measure outcomes, and report on results.
- Experience networking, building, and maintaining relationships both internal and external.
- Possess an appreciation and understanding for artists and the arts and culture sector.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and analyze complex problems, develop and evaluate options and implement appropriate responses and/or solutions.
- Experience in the development and management of grants and sponsorship engagement.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- A critical thinker with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, diverse environment.
- Effective strategic planner, with strong organization and process skills.
- Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills.
