Are you a learning design and capacity-building professional passionate about public engagement? The City of Edmonton is seeking a Methods and Practices Lead to join the Office of the City Manager's Integrated Communications section. This role is central to strengthening the City’s public engagement capacity through curriculum development, training design, and knowledge‑sharing frameworks. You will lead the creation and delivery of high‑quality learning experiences, resources, and tools that empower staff and community partners to plan and deliver meaningful engagement. What will you do? Design and oversee curriculum, learning modules, and professional development opportunities to enhance public engagement skills across City departments Project‑manage the development and delivery of learning and continuous improvement activities to ensure effective, equitable, and consistent engagement practices Identify, recommend, and implement new engagement learning tools, resources, and training techniques by conducting needs assessments and applying knowledge of best practices in adult education Lead the evaluation and standardization of engagement templates, practices and methods to ensure they remain relevant to the community and effective in reaching the diverse voices and perspectives the City needs to hear Build and nurture relationships with internal and external partners (including not‑for‑profit, post‑secondary and professional training organizations) that contribute to capacity building in public engagement Align public engagement learning and practice with corporate frameworks such as The City Plan, the Indigenous Framework, and the Anti‑Racism Strategy Provide guidance and consultation to leadership on embedding learning and continuous improvement into annual strategic work plans Supervise students and interns supporting research, learning content creation, and engagement process improvements For more information, visit: City of Edmonton Public Engagement City of Edmonton Public Engagement Policy Qualifications A university degree in education, community or public engagement, public administration, public policy, business, or a related discipline A minimum of five years of related practical experience in curriculum and program development, training design, or corporate learning, ideally within a public sector, communications, or community engagement context Knowledge of project management, change management, and IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation) principles Assets Project management, change management, and/or IAP2 certification A graduate degree in a related field Skills required for success Strong ability to design, facilitate, and evaluate learning programs for adult professionals Ability to interpret and translate complex engagement processes and frameworks into accessible training content and learning resources Exceptional skills in communicating, training and facilitation with the ability to engage diverse learners across the organization Understanding of social and organizational trends affecting engagement learning and workforce readiness Ability to conduct primary and secondary research, analyze data and trends from public engagement activities, summarize findings and provide recommendations Ability to lead priority projects and cross‑departmental teams with City‑wide impacts Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.ly/4brRrXm) Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion Conditions of Employment Applicants may be tested Work Environment Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52 The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.
