The Role

Sr. Director, Financial Planning & Analysis will report to the SVP, Finance. This role will provide overall leadership and direction to the Finance business unit.

This role will be responsible for working closely with the Senior Finance leadership team, facilitating appropriate strategic decisions and evaluation of performance both at a business unit and company level through the presentation of accurate, relevant, and timely financial information and analysis for the entire MCAP group of companies.

This role will use their analytical abilities to provide both qualitative and quantitative input supporting the development of recommendations for Senior Finance team and support partners across the business (Single Family, Commercial, Construction and Corporate Costs). This role is responsible for the effective and efficient management of financial planning and forecasting, financial analysis, as well as continuous improvement. In addition, this role is expected to drive change and improvement of Finance (across people, process and technology) to support effectiveness and efficiency of the function.

Strong organization and multi-tasking skills are a must, and the role should be able to work with a high degree of independence and initiative. The role must be willing to take a hands-on approach to get things done and operate with a high level of attention to detail.

People leadership and business partnering

  • Build high performance FP&A framework, standards and processes and provide financial leadership for business segment
  • Oversee monthly business finance meetings with business segment leaders; discuss financial results and provide financial insights
  • Partner with business leads to discuss budget drivers and set budget targets
  • Liaise with corporate departments such as HR and IT to oversee completion of corporate cost budgets and monitor ongoing budget to actuals results

Financial analysis and commentary

  • Own and manage financial and performance reporting for the organization. Plan, direct and manage regular and ad hoc reporting and the financial analysis function of the Finance group
  • Consistently prepare and analyze financial data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Develop a deep understanding of business performance, share insights and engagement with management to suggest actions and drive performance improvements
  • Own monthly communication on business performance to management (which is also shared with the Board on a quarterly basis)
  • Own segmented reporting and business-level P&L, for both management purposes and preparing for additional disclosure to segments externally

Strategic Planning & Analysis

  • Provide support on financial modelling for strategic projects, which accords with best practice and identifies risk, issues and assumptions and enables the senior management team to make and implement effective decisions and mitigation strategies
  • Prepare presentations, analyses, forecasts and/or reports for the leadership team, Board of Directors meetings and for other forums as necessary
  • Work with leadership of each business to identify the needs of the business and opportunities that will result in meeting or exceeding budgets
  • Manage and report on key performance indicators to be monitored by management

Data management & Operations

  • Develop data management acumen to process and analyze data such as asset by investor, securitization volumes, mortgage renewals etc.
  • Analyze P&L trends and perform data validations between source and GL, when necessary
  • Manage and operate on MCAP’s management reporting P&L database

Project and process enhancements

  • Identify opportunities for operational process enhancements and automation
  • Manage ongoing finance transformation initiatives to integrate budgeting processes into FSM in the future

Budget

  • Manage five-year business plan, including liquidity plan (requiring partnership and engagement across business, treasury and risk functions)
  • Manage the creation of the annual strategic plan and budget, including translating strategy with executives and management to budget and financial plan with scenarios and management levers.
  • Manage this timeline and engagement with business to increase efficiency and collaboration.
  • Develop and oversee the effective deployment of project spend and assignment of capital to businesses to support strategy
  • Engage closely with business and functions to manage the gathering of key assumptions and data for each of the above (financial planning, forecasting and budgeting).
  • Improve, develop and maintain financial models, while increasing validation and documentation.

Management Reporting

  • Prepare information for the SVP, Finance and the EVP & CFO to assist in the day-to-day management of the Company
  • Provide explanations and information to business unit leaders to monitor achievements and improve financial results for all lines of business
  • Ensure financial management reporting and processes are in place to support the ongoing and future needs of the business unit leaders
  • Develop a deep understanding of business performance, share insights and engagement with management to suggest actions and drive performance.

Act as a Link to Managers, Staff, Outside Agencies and Customers

  • Recruit and develop the right people that believe in and reflect in their behavior MCAP’s Values and culture.
  • Champion the company’s Vision, Mission and Values as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally within the industry.
  • Establish, monitor and communicate performance standards to direct reports reinforcing individual results, work quality, continuous improvement, teamwork and achievement of MCAP’s objectives.
  • Educate, coach and counsel staff to ensure they are empowered to effectively handle their roles in a confident and professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the business unit.
  • Provide and distribute pertinent and relevant information to internal / external contacts.
  • Act as a back-up to support Senior Executive Team

Continuous improvement and modernization

  • Evaluate current processes and recommend changes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Partner with finance and accounting leadership to create strategy and drive execution of finance modernization approach (i.e., platform modernization, forecast platform)
  • Pursue finance automation to create more robust and consistent process

What You Bring To The Team

  • 5-10 years working knowledge in accounting environment such as audit, financial planning and analysis, or financial reporting.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, including GAAP, month end processes, accounting statements, etc.
  • Knowledge of the mortgage industry
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word and accounting software packages
  • Ability to understand complex business structures and transactions
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data in order to make recommendations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively monitor and develop staff
  • Ability to lead change initiatives and to foster a positive employee relations environment.
  • Excellent verbal, and written communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Proven diplomacy, tact, decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels within the organization.
