Traffic Engineer-in-Training

What your day will look like:
- Design and Project Coordination
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and studies to support the development of transportation engineering designs, including EA documentation.
- Design of transportation projects including:
- Preliminary and Detailed Design
- Engineering studies
- Technical specifications
- Design calculations
- Transportation drafting using CADD software
- Conduct site investigations and condition assessments.
- Complete review of safe work practices and perform risk assessments.
- Preparation of contract documentation, including:
- Contract drawings
- Construction specifications
- Tender quantity and cost estimates
- Working day estimates
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, planners, environmental scientists, engineering technologists, and administrative support staff.
- Business Development
- Contribute to the preparation of estimates and project proposals.
- Contribute to the leadership and growth of the Transportation group.
- Contribute to the development of public and private sector client relationships and new business opportunities.
- Travel to client locations and/or other Dillon offices for the purposes of executing your responsibilities, internal client relationship development, project research, and project delivery.
- Learning and Development
- Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
- Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring.
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
What you will need to succeed:
- A degree in civil or transportation engineering or a diploma in civil engineering technology.
- Licensed to practice as an engineer-in-training in the province of Ontario, or eligible to be licensed within six months, or registered as a civil engineering technologist in the province of Ontario, or eligible to be registered within six months.
- 3-8 years of experience with exposure to consulting.
- Knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices.
- Understand project design and implementation activities, including development of design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, tendering, and contract administration.
- Proficient in the use of current AutoCAD software; working knowledge of Civil 3D, Microstation, OpenRoads Designer, or InRoads software will be considered an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
