**What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will:

- Monitor and analyze existing and future traffic operations to identify capacity and/or safety deficiencies and to develop countermeasures
- Conduct on-site investigations to assess traffic operations
- Review development proposals, traffic impact and planning studies, and highway designs for safety and efficiency
- Prepare and review signing plans, sign details and pavement marking layouts
- Respond to internal and external inquiries, and work with internal and external partners
- Provide technical input to resolve safety and operational issues within the region

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:
**Traffic Engineering Knowledge**: You have:

- Knowledge of transportation planning, engineering and technology (e.g. traffic characteristics, products, devices, traffic engineering management strategies, highway design and construction/maintenance practices)
- Knowledge of traffic operations engineering to interpret and relate engineering plans and drawings to driver behaviour and traffic operations
- Knowledge of traffic data collection, processing and projection techniques
- Knowledge of relevant sections of provincial legislation (e.g. Highway Traffic Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Municipal Act, Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, Off-Road Vehicles Act)

**Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills**: You have:

- Research, analytical and problem solving skills to evaluate existing or potential traffic operational problems and develop solutions
- Effective time management skills to organize/prioritize work in order to meet established deadlines

**Interpersonal and Communication Skills**: You have:

- Proven interpersonal skills to liaise with, and provide technical advice and information to clients
- Communication and presentation skills to prepare/present technical reports and general correspondence
