You will interact with employees from all aspects of the business including Operations, Sales, Dispatch, and Customer Service. Your success within the role is reliant on an ambitious work ethic, excellent communication and proven ability to problem-solve. The key to Waste Connections’ continued growth and success is sourcing, developing, and promoting individuals who meet these expectations.As an Assistant Controller with us the minimum responsibilities are:Performing monthly financial close functions through preparation of financial statementsReconciliation of all general ledger accounts and preparing support documentationCompletion of monthly financial projection analysisMonthly narrative analysis of significant financial variances to budget and forecastEffective ongoing communication of financial related information to business counterpartsPlanning and participating in the annual financial budget processPrepare all capital purchase requests for the district, including preparation of all support documentsPrepare HST returns, providing support in audits and industry reportingImplement and maintain required internal controlsImplement and maintain regular reporting processes to support operationsCoordinating and performing Inventory counts – Rolling Stock, Container, and Truck Shop inventoryProviding training to non-financial personnel on internal control compliance, accounting procedures and financial statement reviewProviding support to accounting staffSpecial projects as assigned.WHAT WE NEED FROM YOUBachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.Enrolled in the CPA program3+ years of accounting experience in a similar roleProficiency in accounting software and MS Office applications (exceptional excel skills)Analytical thinking and attention to detail.Excellent written and interpersonal communication skillsStrong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.Must be a self-starter with the initiative to learn and a great work ethicThis on-site role is based in London, Ontario, with the expectation of future relocation as opportunities arise in other locations.WHAT YOU’LL GET FROM USCompetitive WagesRetirement Plan with company match; let us help you save for your futureBenefits; Medical, Dental, VisionPerks, perks, perks Employee Assistant Program, Scholarship Opportunities for kids, Employee Stock Purchase PlanInsurance: Life, Short Term/Long Term DisabilityWe thank all applicants for their interest but advise only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
