Moving beyond an analysis focused on states and powerful economic actors, the course will equip students to recognize different perspectives on the nature and implications of social movements on their own terms and for global politics, to understand how and why people engage in such protests and to appreciate similarities and differences in the impact and trajectories of different social movements around the world. Students will explore not only how states respond to social movement politics but also how social movements themselves have engaged strategies and tactics through such means as the development of international solidarity networks in pursuit of their goals. Additional Information This appointment is in accordance with the Contract Teaching Faculty and Part-time Librarians Collective Agreement, for which the Wilfrid Laurier Faculty Association (WLUFA) is the exclusive bargaining agent.
