We provide training, development, and advancement opportunities so you can build a career that drives progress and safety.Purpose of the PositionAs a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Maintenance Technician, you will work with advanced mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems essential to rail operations. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide range of heavy equipment and machinery. The role is ideal for individuals who are mechanically inclined, enjoy hands‑on work in outdoor environments, and are open to occasional travel for field service assignments.Position AccountabilitiesConduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance, identifying potential problems before they cause failure.Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, or electronic issues in machinery, including disassembling, replacing parts, and reassembling equipment such as ballast regulators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, tie cranes, and tie inserters.Utilize manual, electric, and hydraulic tools, along with welders and cutting torches, to perform and verify maintenance tasks and repairs.Investigate and diagnose equipment issues, taking swift corrective action to minimize downtime and production disruptions.Plan, organize, and coordinate work within a collaborative team setting.Follow safety regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in potentially hazardous environments.Maintain detailed logs of all maintenance and repair work performed, including schedules and parts used.Ensure all tools are maintained in optimal working condition and operate heavy and specialized machinery as required.Position RequirementsHigh school diploma or general equivalency.Minimum of 3 years’ experience repairing heavy‑duty equipment or as a maintenance technician.Completion of formal training in heavy equipment or commercial transport is required; a heavy‑duty equipment mechanic license is an asset.Valid driver’s license.Skilled in reading schematics and diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.Proficient in computer use, including maintaining data for repair work orders and using various software applications.Solid foundational knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and welding principles is required, with opportunities for specialized expertise based on industry needs.What CPKC Has to OfferFlexible and competitive benefits package.Competitive company pension and/or retirement plans.Employee share purchase plan.Annual fitness subsidy.Part‑time studies program.Pre‑Employment RequirementsMedical and drug testing: A successful pre‑employment medical assessment, including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative drug test, is required.
