Senior Payroll Analyst – Join Trans Mountain Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state. Trans Mountain also operates a state‑of‑the‑art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets. Key Responsibilities Payroll Process Improvement & System Implementation Identify opportunities to streamline and automate payroll workflows to reduce manual tasks and enhance accuracy. Handle payroll process enhancement requests by gathering business requirements, coordinating with IT, completing testing, and ensuring training and documentation updates. Recommend and support the implementation of system configuration or process changes to improve efficiency and compliance. Monitor integration points between payroll, HRIS, and finance systems, troubleshooting issues and coordinating resolutions. Communicate system updates, policy changes, and payroll initiatives to the broader team. Payroll Operations & Compliance Ensure payrolls (Canada and the US) are processed accurately and on time for employees across multiple pay cycles (bi‑weekly, semi‑monthly, and monthly). Maintain compliance with federal, provincial, and state legislation, as well as internal policies and controls. Review payroll data for accuracy, including new hires, terminations, job changes, and adjustments. Support statutory remittances, garnishments, audits, and reconciliations. Serve as a key contact for complex payroll inquiries requiring in‑depth analysis or legislative interpretation. Time & Attendance and Data Integrity Validate time entries, corrections, and time‑off requests to ensure compliance with internal policies and legislation. Audit and maintain time codes, pay codes, schedules, and GL accounts for accuracy. Partner with HR to improve data entry workflows and ensure data integrity across payroll‑related systems. Reporting, Analysis & Year‑End Monitor reporting for payroll and HR reports for audits, compliance reviews, and management requests. Support general ledger reconciliations, bonus/tax programs, and year‑end processes and annual filings. Assist with year‑end adjustments, vacation deferrals, and other accruals. Qualifications and Professional Experience College Diploma or University degree in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field. 9+ years of progressive experience in payroll operations. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) certification is considered an asset. Proficiency with enterprise HRIS/payroll systems such as SuccessFactors, ADP, or equivalent platforms. Proven track record in payroll system implementation and optimisation. Demonstrated ability to streamline and automate payroll processes through technology. Familiarity with ServiceNow or other high‑volume ticketing systems. Advanced proficiency in Excel skills, including payroll reporting and reconciliations. Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance standards in both Canada and the United States. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills; a strong team player with a collaborative working style. Analytical thinker with strong problem‑solving abilities and sound decision‑making. Maintains confidentiality, calm under pressure and demonstrates a high level of professionalism. Ability to lead or support change initiatives related to payroll processes and systems. Encourages fresh perspectives and fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Ability to address employee inquiries and resolve payroll‑related issues effectively. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
