The Director of Operations - Edmonton has the opportunity every day to serve and grow a small team serving customers in the door and millwork industry in Central Alberta. The Director of Operations exercises wide responsibility for leading the business enterprise alongside their counterpart in Sales. He/She will reflect visionary leadership as team mentor, team facilitator and team educator in strategic warehouse organization, production management, capacity planning, inventory control and management to most effectively meet the customer's and organization's operational requirements.
Due to the size and nature of the business, this is a hands-on leadership role. The successful candidate will lead with their heart by doing, working alongside their team with their hands regularly to build an uplifting culture and keeping intimate knowledge of the functions. They will also lead with their mind, offering strategic thinking and analysis, maintaining profit-and-loss responsibility and monthly reporting, capital and operational budget planning, and vendor and partner relationship management responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Foster a "Safety First" culture; continually work proactively to create a safer work environment at Alliance Door Products (particular focus on safe stacking and forklift/pedestrian safety).
- Generate an attitude within the organization that emphasizes the importance of customer's needs, with a mindset to do "What Ever It Takes" to assure the highest level of quality and service is maintained. The ultimate goal = 100% order fulfillment (on-time) with zero quality complaints
- Develop employees to their highest level of skill and performance, provide training and development opportunities and encourage positive communication and team building between departments. Provide ongoing employee feedback; proactively address any performance issues to assure no "Surprises" are encountered during regularly scheduled Performance Review process.
- Responsible for purchasing, warehouse and inventory control (cycle counting and coordination of physical inventory) ensuring most cost-effective procurement and use of company resources.
- Manage all operations, including value added shop production and capacity planning (people and resources) shop and warehouse layout, timely and accurate receiving and in-bound/out-bound load scheduling. Assuring that material and production quality specifications are met: including proper and adequate testing of inbound materials, assuring the proper storage and handling of warehoused material to minimize damage and loss.
- Personally, partner with the Sales Director to develop a high level of product and industry knowledge, customer service requirements through research with Sales & Marketing, field trips gaining experience so you and the organization can successfully present business strategies to strengthen our customer relationships and service efficiency.
- Develop standard operating procedures to support foundational stability and continuous improvement with focus on efficiency and elimination of waste. Provide training materials and programs for the production shop and warehouse, including effective development and communication of warehouse item locations and mapping.
- Develop relationships and negotiate service agreements with Industry Partners (including Alliance Door Products and Lynden Door partners) to most effectively service Alliance Door Product's customers.
- Maintain facilities and warehouse equipment e.g. Logistics, Material Vendors, Mechanical Contractors etc.
