Research Associate – ClimateJoin UNSW’s Climate Change Research Centre in Sydney as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The role focuses on high‑resolution rainfall extremes and the impact of climate change on Australian weather patterns.About the RoleLevel A – $113k - $121k, 17% superannuation and annual leave loadingFixed term – 11 months (to 31 December 2026)Full‑time – 35 hours per weekSpecific ResponsibilitiesLead independent research on short‑duration rainfall extremes and contribute to CSH partnership projects.Design and run atmospheric and coupled climate model simulations (WRF and similar models) and analyze observational data and model output.Co‑design research projects, engage stakeholders, and produce scholarly output publishable in peer‑reviewed journals.Present findings at local, national and international conferences.Take on leadership opportunities within CSH/CCRC such as supervising PhD students and organizing workshops.Adhere to UNSW health and safety policies and demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.About the Successful ApplicantPhD in Physical Climate Science, Climate Modelling, Atmosphere/Ocean Dynamics or related discipline.Strong track record of independent and team research, with high‑quality publications.Expertise in climate model simulation, bias correction and ensemble analysis (CMIP, CORDEX, NARCliM).Proficiency in Unix/Linux programming (Python, Fortran, Matlab, R).Evidence of analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.Commitment to UNSW’s aims, values and diversity, equity and inclusion principles.ContactJason Evans, UNSW Climate Systems Hub – email: k.meissner@unsw.edu.auApplications close: 26 November 2025.UNSW is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.
