Details of the role The Research Fellow (Health Economist) will work in partnership with economists, epidemiologists, mathematical modelers, and social scientists to evaluate public health interventions targeting infectious diseases. A major focus of this work will be neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), affecting countries in Africa and the Pacific. In particular, the fellow will be responsible for conducting cost‑effectiveness and budget impact assessments alongside trials and programmatic implementation of mass drug administration regimens including moxidectin aiming to control/eliminate several NTDs (e.g. onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis). They will also be responsible for evaluating different financing mechanisms for sustainable investment in NTDs. This research is predominantly supported through a new Synergy grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council. The successful applicant will work closely with members of the Health Economics and Health Systems Research and Neglected Tropical Diseases Groups at the Kirby Institute as well as key partners in the countries where these groups are working. The role of Research Fellow (Health Economist) reports to the head of the Health Economics and Health Systems Research Group. This role has no direct reports. Some Essential Key Skills Required PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., health economics, public health, economics) with substantial relevant experience in design or evaluation of public health interventions. Undertake economic evaluations and budget impact assessments of public health interventions. Demonstrated experience in leading or co‑leading economic evaluations alongside trials of health interventions, using STATA and/or R software. Demonstrated experience in modelling long‑term health outcomes and costs of public health interventions. Oversee and ensure the quality, integrity and security of project datasets. Assist in the training and management of field teams based in the different study sites in Australia and overseas. Communicate findings through project reports, conference presentations, and peer‑reviewed publications, including as lead author. Strong research output, as evidenced by peer‑review publications, scientific presentations, and involvement in securing research funding. Some Desired Key Skills Required Experience in the evaluation of interventions targeting Neglected Tropical Diseases. Experience working in low- and middle‑income countries and/or resource‑constrained settings. Experience mentoring project staff and supervising higher degree students.
