TOP Sports is looking to hire an experienced passionate Hockey Camp Instructors to join our summer camps team at St. Michael’s College School Arena in Midtown Toronto. For the summer of 2024, we will be offering full-day hockey camps from August 6th - August 30th.

Hockey Camp Instructors will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day on-ice and off-ice operations of a specific section of camp, which generally 20-25 children and 2-4 staff per week.

Experience leading a summer camp setting is required, as well as extensive hockey experience with youth. All applicants should be VERY outgoing and bring plenty of energy, passion, and engagement to every day. Additional experience with soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse, and camp games is an asset.

Experience & Skills

  • Strong leadership and communication skills developed through previous camp roles along with the ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Experience running hockey programs and activities for children
  • Experience working in a leadership role or capacity at a day or overnight camp
  • Hockey camp counsellor experience
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills: ability to establish rapport and maintain excellent communication with campers, parents, and coaches
  • Experience coaching team sports AND/OR experience working with young children
  • Ability to encourage and motivate colleagues, and to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of others

Accountability: Camp Instructors report to the Camp Manager and Camp Lead

Pre-Camp Hours: 10-15 hours working on preparation, onboarding, training, and summer camp planning. Mandatory camp training will take place June 25-26, 9am - 4pm

Camp Hours: Week of August 6th - August 30th, 8am-4pm Monday to Friday. No holidays or weekends.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, guide, and oversee a section of the summer hockey camp program, which includes 20-25 campers 2-4 staff on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee section camp staff, ensuring all staff are on-task and adhering to the TOP Sports Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Oversee and implement all schedules for staff and campers in specific section
  • Address crisis management, discipline, and troubleshooting issues related to campers and/or staff.
  • Communicate professionally with campers, parents, staff members, and other community members daily.
  • Responsible for support in the creation and planning of daily camp activities and activity schedules.
  • Responsible for recording any incident or medical reports, including allergies, injuries, and conflicts.
  • Responsible for creation and execution of summer camp safety plan, including evacuation plan, inclement weather plan, and active threat plan.
  • Coordination of all drop-off and pickup of campers throughout camp weeks, including any early pickups.
  • Responsible for providing feedback to all summer camp staff, including weekly status meetings with the entire staff.
  • Liaise with the Camp Manager on changes that need to be made to summer camp programming on a weekly basis, including staff changes, programming changes, and policy updates.

Underscoring that belief was the idea that kids should be exposed to as many sports as possible during their youth, building athletic literacy, preventing early specialization, and developing multi-sport athletes.

Our goal at every camp is to have every camper arrive on Day 1 nervously excited to get started and leave at the end of the week with a new group of friends and burgeoning passion for sport. Our coaches strive to achieve our mantra of "sweaty heads & smiles" at the end of each day, providing a fun and safe experience for all campers.

Weekly salary for this position is $650 per week, depending on coaching experience, certifications, and role.
