An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced emergency management professional to join the AHS Provincial Emergency Preparedness team within the South Zone. If you have a passion for emergency management, patient-focused health care, and thrive in a high-paced team environment, then this opportunity may be for you. This position’s portfolio covers sites across the west side of the zone, including Lethbridge, and the successful candidate will be required to reside within the portfolio’s geographic area. This position is responsible for leading and coordinating mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities for a portfolio of approximately 25 healthcare sites, including six acute care hospital facilities.
Description:Acts as a consultant/expert in the implementation of site emergency response plans for a variety of healthcare facilities including hospitals, community care sites, Addiction Mental Health sites, and office buildings. Maintains and oversees the Hazmat First Receiver program including in-person training delivery. Designs and delivers emergency response plan training to multiple levels of the organization from Senior Executive Leadership to Frontline Staff. Designs, delivers and/or participates in emergency response training exercises including tabletops, functional and full-scale exercises both internally and with external partners. Maintains readiness of Zone Emergency Operations Center and Site Command Post physical locations and virtual capability. Supports ZEOC and SCP mobilizations (including virtual or physical activations) and takes on active roles in the command structure. Responds/reacts to actual or potential incidents, either internal to AHS (e.g.: fire at a hospital) or external to AHS (e.g.: Community flood). Maintains a strong working relationship with the Zone E/DM Director to understand and follow zone and provincial work plan priorities and to inform zone and site-based decision-making. Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with internal partners from frontline staff to Executive Leadership. Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with external partners including municipalities, industry, and indigenous communities.

Undergraduate degree; preferably in Emergency Management and/or a Health Profession. A combination of relevant education and experience in healthcare and/or Emergency Management may be considered. Minimum three years' experience within a healthcare and/or Emergency Management environment. A wide range of knowledge on current trends and practices in Emergency Management, particularly within a healthcare environment, government, or industry. Strong understanding of the different pillars of emergency management including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Experience in the preparation and delivery of educational and training programs. Ability to use provincial templates to build a complete suite of emergency response plans for a site. Demonstrated skills in time and priority management, and conflict resolution. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, and SharePoint.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Emergency Management or a Health Profession. Supervisory/management experience. CBRN/Hazmat training/experience. Exercise design training/experience. Certification with the International Association of Emergency Managers (AEM/CEM). Business Continuity Management certification and experience (ABCP/CBCP). Knowledge of legislation, regulations and codes that impact emergency planning. Experience in Project Management. Experience/certification in Change Management.
