As a Project Engineer with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of experts.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Project Engineering, this position will be responsible for managing sustaining capital projects which are focused on ensuring the integrity of Trans Mountain's pipeline and all related facilities. As a member of the Capital Projects engineering team, the Project Engineer will participate in the identification, planning, and execution of capital projects throughout the Trans Mountain pipeline system.
This position is based in our Edmonton Regional Office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for all plant engineering design activities for design integrity meeting all code, regulatory, standard and specification requirements.
- Reviewing scoping documents to ensure all aspects of design requirements and scope of the projects are properly being captured in execution plans.
- Identifying process & mechanical quality assurance requirements and contributing to a quality assurance team.
- Interface with engineering contractors to provide direction/guidance on engineering design development and technical issues.
- Review and approve proposed engineering designs to ensure requirements are properly being captured.
- Ensuring mechanical document management and lifecycle information requirements are being met.
- Preparing project specifications, cost estimates, bid documents, bid analysis summaries and awards, budget forecasting, schedules, and execution plans.
- Coordinating with TM Operations, Engineering, internal and external stakeholders to develop sustaining capital projects.
- Providing project management services including managing third party engineering firms, project scoping, preparing AFE’s, drawings review, permitting, job hazard analysis, cost and schedule tracking, construction liaison, commissioning, and start-up support.
- Ensuring project documentation l document management and lifecycle information requirements are being met.
Qualification and Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Preferably Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering) is required.
- P. Eng Designation with Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA) or Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) is required.
- 4 to 8 years Engineering experience in a related field is required.
- Preference will be given to candidates with pipeline engineering experience.
- Project management experience including experience managing projects up to $10M is preferred.
- Proven ability in Mechanical engineering is required.
- Experience working in an operating environment is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with others, and desire to mentor, lead and guide junior and intermediate engineers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organizational, time management and leadership skills.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex problems and make sound decisions.
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner in a high-paced, multi-task environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to navigate and facilitate difficult conversations.
Other requirements and Information
- Travel to work sites is required (5-10%).
- Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
- May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
