Location – This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton. The Department of Surgery has 15 divisions and offers programs in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies. The department also includes many other research groups who contribute to cutting edge advancement in areas such as transplantation, joint preservation and regeneration and surgical simulation technology. Founded in 1922, the department has been a leader in its field, striving to achieve a balance between technology and the human element that defines the art of surgery. The overarching mission of the department is to restore health through surgical intervention, and to remember that patient dignity and comfort are integral to overall health. Reporting to the Principal Investigator and working closely with the Research Associate, the Laboratory Technician will support research aimed at understanding the cellular and molecular processes that drive skin scarring after burn injuries. Responsibilities Assist research scientists with ongoing projects, including patient biopsy processing, immunochemistry staining, and real-time PCR. Assist with cell culture work. Prepare commonly used solutions for the lab. Recognize and react to biosafety and chemical issues in the laboratory, ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials, and maintain a clean and safe lab environment. Will follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the direction of laboratory scientists. Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a related field required. Minimum 2-3 years of previous research lab work experience. Strong skills with IHC and real-time PCR experimental techniques. Thorough understanding of basic lab techniques and principles. Computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Strong analytical, organization and time management skills. Master’s degree considered an asset.
